Brooklyn Lager, the Brewery's flagship label, is New York's "hometown" beer, brewed to a pre-Prohibition recipe that dates back to the days when Brooklyn was the brewing capital of the East Coast. Wrote Michael Jackson in the Simon & Schuster Pocket Guide to Beer: "The dry-hopped, fresh, flowery, firm, flavourful, Brooklyn Lager started well, in 1988, and has gained in character since."

Bottle from Metro drunk with some refried bean, bacon, and guac wraps. Brewed in Sweden. Medium amber, small head, neutral nose with a hint of malt. Flavor is fuller, a wee bit nutty, moderate earthy hops, a bit metallic. Not too amazing and not much like my memory of the beer from 2 decades ago, but pretty drinkable.

12oz bottle. Light amber body, small foamy head. Malty aroma, toasty. Taste is lightly toasted malts with a nice hoppy kick at the finish.

0,4 from tap at the Scotsman. Having just sampled the border line-dreadful E. C. Dahls' weissbier this might be a slightly too positive review. Regardless, this pours a clear amber body with a persistent frothy clear white head. Quite a looker, even for a lager! Decently composed aroma of dark malts, fruits and - above all - hops. A hoppy lager indeed. Not that that is a bad thing, though. Flavour has hints of the aroma with malts and fruits, but is more centered in hoppy bitterness with some sour citric notes to the almost-abrupt finish. The sourness could be the batch at the Scotsman as this reviewer detected the same phenomenon a few days ago at the same venue and has not felt this as strongly beforehand when sampling this particular brew in purchased boxes. Should probably re-rate at some future date as this experience was somewhat disappointing when compared to previous samplings. Agree with Rune that this is quite pale ale-like for a lager and thus not bad, but at the same time it is not much to write home about either. Drinkable, though.
