Brooklyn Lager, the Brewery's flagship label, is New York's "hometown" beer, brewed to a pre-Prohibition recipe that dates back to the days when Brooklyn was the brewing capital of the East Coast. Wrote Michael Jackson in the Simon & Schuster Pocket Guide to Beer: "The dry-hopped, fresh, flowery, firm, flavourful, Brooklyn Lager started well, in 1988, and has gained in character since."

Bottle. Somehow have never rated this! Pours a clear amber with little head. Aroma is caramel and malt, clean, citrus and hops. Medium body. Flavour is malty and lightly sweet, good bitterness. Simple hop profile yet nice, with some orange and lemon, herbal. Finish is bittersweet. It is still a really nice lager, super drinkable and with a pleasant hop profile.

Can brewed under licence by Carlsberg. Clear amber pour, small white head which dissipates to leave some lacing. Aroma of roasted malts and hops. Taste starts with the roasted malts note with moderate sweetness. Then comes a long bitterness, combined with a graininess which is the lagery part. There is all a nuttiness to the flavour. The mouthfeel is excellent. Body is moderate and fairly smooth on the palate, carbonation is soft but has enough about it. This is very good indeed.
