XVI is 42% stout with Velvet Merkin, Parabola and “PNC” working together as three roasty toasty friends creating rich cacao, chocolate and mocha flavors together. Helldorado, with flavors of lavender and honey liqueur fold in flowery notes and DDBA delivers its signature American toasted oak, English caramel toffee and light leather nuances. Stickee Monkee lends rich maple syrup, spicy cinnamon, and ripe fig flavors while Bravo adds barrel character and bourbon notes. The addition of Wookey Jack adds wily citrusy hop notes and spicy rye backbone. As this beer sits and breathes in the glass, more rich dusty chocolate, stone fruit and crème brulee characters are revealed as the rich spirit character fades.

Bottle: Poured a dark cloudy brown color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, caramelized malt and toffee is pretty singular and quite enticing. Taste is a super complex mix of an English barleywine with caramelized and toffee malt with light chocolate notes with some strong whiskey with woody and vanilla notes also noticeable. Body is full with medium carbonation and some warming alcohol notes. Quite an enjoyable treat to finish the night.

Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, thanks once again to the host with the mose for this ’dubblup’, the cucumbers were in fine fettle this evening of 04/11/14. Dark mahogany brown with a decent beige covering that soon collapses. Nose is bitter roast, booze, dark fruits, dates, spice, chocolate, dark toffee imbibe. Taste comprises treacle toffee, coconut shavings, liqourice, spice, booze tunes. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Bruce. Pours clear brown with a frothy tan head. The nose holds of tangy ripe fruits, dark malts, grapes, dates. Medium to big sweet flavor with lots of jammy berries, raspberry, dates and figs, vanilla, burnt toffee. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish with lots of rich, dark sugars, loads of fig and date, suggestions of cocoa, background wood, some mild toffee. Great stuff. Exceptional depth and balance.

Bottle thanks to Bruce. It pours dirty dark brown with a small tan head. The nose is rich, dried fruits, toffee, vanilla, jammy, oily wood and roasty brown sugar. The taste is rich, roasty, wood, leather, vanilla, boozy, toffee, bourbon, earth, varnish and dried fruits, with a smooth, toffee finish. Fullish body and fine carbonation. Great balance and very enjoyable. Nice depth.

Bottle thanks to timfoolery: Poured black with a thin beige colored head. Aroma is vanilla, woodsy, and roasted malts. Strong bourbon bite, vanilla, coffee bean, roasted malts, alcohol burn and hints of chocolate melded with complexity. Finish leaves the tongue dry and tingly.
