Pours clear copper with a thin, foamy, off-white head; little lacing. Aroma of smoked ham & sausage, charcoal, sweet tobacco, wood, toast, salted peanut. It tastes medium malty sweet, quite smoky & meaty, hint of umami sausage & ham, a bit bready; light herbal bitter with sourish yeast in the back. Smoky finish, a bit grassy hoppy with lingering bread & yeast. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Perhaps a tad less elegant than the Schlenkerla.

Appearance: Dark brown, hint of red. Small off-white head. Aroma: Light smoke, some dark malt. Taste: Light smoke, dark malt. Light tar and wood. Smooth, though. Bought: Alt-Ringlein (Bamberg), 500 ml draft, €3.20 Info: 9/8-2018

Pours deep gold from the bottle. Foamy head soon fades. Smoke and salami in aroma. Taste is mildly bitter with hints of ash, caramel and grain. Light to medium body. A touch of water at the end. Good.

Copper-brownish, clear body, with a big, stable, fluffy, lacing, light beige head.
Aroma of burned wood, bacon, caramel, toast, dark bread, some cocoa, slight dark fruits.
Tastes similar, while a bit lighter.
Medium to light, slick mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes quite soft, smokey, wooden, medium dry, a bit toasty, slightly bready.
Nice one. Very easy and balanced to drink, while also quite light, gets a bit watery towards the finish. Still a really refreshing, classic example of a Bamberger Rauchbier.

500 ml from tap at Spezial Brauerei in Bamberg. Clear amber colour, small head. A bit reserved smoke aroma, citrus fruits, roasted malt. Bitter smoky taste, no sweetness. A bit watery texture and light bodied, Soft carbonated, easy to drink and very palatable. Refreshing!
