A massive dose of Citra hops launch our legendary double IPA (Minnesota’s first, and a nod to our abrasives factory origin) into the hophead stratosphere.

Probably not as good as a beer as it would have been if I'd had it 8 years ago. Orange and some grapefruit. Lime. Orange pour with good head. Bitter finish. Can.

Big and brutal, but, as the description says, over-hopped. Starts with a lovely rush of grapefruit, orange marmalade, and melon, then gets an overripe peach current accented by wort and a slight vegetal funkiness. Grows wondrously bitter on the back end--I love the clingy, resinous pine--but the sweetness ramps up as well, leading to a heavy, unwanted spoiled fruit undercurrent. Good, but one pint is more than enough.

16oz can from Brewers Haven. I didn't get the chance to hit Surly when I was in MN, so I'm glad we're finally seeing distro here. This one of the beers that put them on the map, and it's a throwback to the old days of in your face hoppiness. Dark golden pour with a lasting soft, foamy head. You can detect a hint of caramel malts in the aroma before the hops take over. Taste begins and ends with the hop bitterness, woody, piney, sharp. This what DIPAs used to taste like. Thanks for the memories.

Can from Holiday Market. Pours a clear orange gold color with a finger of white foam that lingers. Great lacing down the glass. Boozy nose with pine, bright citrus, pineapple and apricot aromas. Very west coast with a light body that is nice. Surprisingly fairly smooth for the abv. Good pithy citrus that lingers with dried pineapple flavors, booze and pine on the finish.

Tap @ Mikkeller Bar Aarhus. Pours clear orange with a small white head. Aroma is very tropical, malty, orange sweetness, piney, pineapple, hoppy. Taste is pretty darn bitter, hoppy fruitiness, light tropical fruit, sweet orange and a backend of malt. Nice!

Beautiful golden pour without much foam. Clean citrus hops, resinous and piney. Tastes herbal bitter and is superbly balanced. Not too long herbal bitter finish. 9% is nowhere to be seen, feels really sessionable.

Big IPA. Would prefer one more balanced. But this is good. Plenty of bitter. Long bitter finish.

Can. A- Guava, mango, apricot, tropical fruits, pine. A- Orange color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Bitter, grassy, pine, tropical citrus, caramel. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- Definitely not as aggressive as I expected. Actually, quite balanced and drinkable. Lots of tropical fruits on the nose. 6 months old but I kinda liked it.
