2018 bottle in a trade from superspak. Thanks Ian! Pours a deep brown to black with a half finger of beige head that dissipates quickly. Punchy kitkat, fudge, cacao nib, vanilla and oak in the nose. Coffee and kitkat really stands out as it warms. Fantastic depth in the nose. More chocolate, coffee, treacle notes on the palate. Medium body, well balanced. Faint smoke and more cacao, bourbon and oak on the finish. Booze is hidden fairly well, but as it warms up you get a bit more. Really nice nightcap beer. --- Beer merged from original tick of Morningwood Stout on 20 Sep 2019 at 23:23 - Score: 8. Original review text: 2018 vintage. Thanks Ian!

Keg at BD TH, 04/07/18. Black with a well presented tan head. Nose is sweet malts, light coffee grinds, chocolate dipped raspberries, caramel, faint barrel. Taste carries a mellow bourbon rip, coffee bean, black forest gateaux with a raspberry twist, candy bar, chocolate melt with a caramel twist. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced kiss of alcohol. Fairly decadent stuff ... a touch overly sweet for my mojo.

Bottle. Pours opaque black, small dark brown head, nice residual and lacing. Aroma is rich bourbon mocha vanilla, molasses. Flavor is fairly sweet, medium bitter, rich, maple and vanilla, chocolate, bourbon, oak. Full body, creamy mouthfeel feel. Hint of tartness. Hmmmmm

Bottle thanks to Russell. Pours a very dark brown with small beige head. The aroma is roast, chocolate, and vanilla. Similar flavor to nose, roast finish. Good.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 11/10/2014. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, fudge, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, brown sugar, and oaky earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, dark bread, caramel, fudge, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, bourbon, brown sugar, and oaky earthiness. Light amount of roast/oaky bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, dark bread, caramel, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, bourbon, and brown sugar on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great malt/barrel balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, and slightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent barrel aged imperial coffee stout. All around great complexity, balance, and robustness of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

2014 vintage from BlowOffTube, thanks for the opportunity! Solid inky black with a minimal tan head. Huge milk and light dark chocolate bourbon and vanilla notes with a touch of roasted coffee. I swear I get some mint in the aroma as well. The flavor is rich thick and sweet fudge-y chocolate that slowly turns to a mocha then some wooden vanilla and a bit of alcohol flavor and burn Rich thick and sweet, I love this brew!

Opaque dark brown beer, few tan bubbles for a head. Smooth and viscous palate. Slightly tangy dark malts with fruity coffee. Sweetish vanilla brings up the rear. Smooth finish. Nicely joined up.

Bottle I picked up on Black Friday at the brewery. I had it on tap, didn’t rate it, so here goes. Pours a deep but somewhat thin dark brown with very little head. Aromas are boozy with lots of dark fruit and bourbon. Flavor is more of the same, but since it has so little carbonation, it comes across as a little odd. It’s thin for the style, but still yummy.
