Made with Highly roasted malted barley, and plenty of it, to give the beer an uncommon richness and smoky, roasty depth. Just the way the 18th century Russian royalty liked it.

A classic light tan head on a near black body. Nose is pretty standard with semi-sweet chocolate and coffee with a slightly vegetal edge. Lots of what you want in an IS. A solid coffee, chocolate, caramel combo leads the profile with some dark berries, well roasted malt and ash mixed in. No excess booziness. A solid quality low price classic.

Tap at BeerTemple, Amsterdam, 19th May 2022. Pours thinnish black. Aroma is molasses and black treacle. Taste is black treacle and caramel, bittersweet. Not bad

Sampled on draft this beer poured a black color with a large foamy brown head that left good lacing.The aroma was smokey and roasty with anise and floral hops. The flavor was bitter with smoke, roasty malts and anise. Very long finish. Thick and smooth body.

A black beer, a head is big and brown. Aroma has coffee and roastiness, liquirice, saltyness, some dried fruitness. Taste has richness of malts, salt liquirice, roastiness, some salt and fruitness. Quite sweet but still balanced, some bitterness in the end. Full bodied, smooth and enjoyable to drink. Balanced and high-quality beer.
