This is the quintessential Short’s Brew, incapable of truly fitting into a specific style, Huma is big in every way it can be: big on bitterness, big on malt backbone, big on piney waves of citrus and wildflowers. This is Joe Short’s favorite beer, the first beer he poured at the Pub and the last beer we all pick up at the end of a hard day’s work or play.

Save half for the husband. Not the beer. The beer is all mine.

From Beer Drop. Canned March 10th 2022?? It should not be that old.
Nice clear gold sitting under an inch of foam.
I smell citrus, pine, and some cardboard malt. Not surprising.
Grapefruit citrus, pine, malt that definitely says that this is past its prime.
Good mouthfeel, I am not going to hold the age of this beer to the brewery.

Can from Busch's. Pours a deep orange gold with a full finger of foam. Lots of pine and grapefruit on the nose. Caramel notes and more orange and grapefruit pith on the palate. Bitter finish with caramel, toasted bread, citrus pith and pine.

Classic IPA, offering competing layers of caramel, biscuit, earth, resin, grapefruit, and pine. Eschews juiciness, which I respect. Finishes with a firm bitterness and lingering notes of pine and citrus pith. Solid beer.

Bottle from De Bierkoning, almost 3 months after bottling. Deep golden color with a light veil. Big rocky off white head with good retention. Aroma's: herbal hops with a malty backbone, light fruit. Retronasal: (dark) malty, fruity, herbal/leafy hops. Flavor is moderate bitter with light malty sweetness. Light medium bodied. Finishes slightly dry, moderate bitter.

Bottle split with Bob at his house earlier this evening. Pours orange with a small off-white head. Flavor is resin, pine, orange peel, a little dirty. Fine, but not out-of-this-world good.

Bot & boy do I wish I could tell the minute differences between IPA hops. All I feel is the overwhelming bitterness everytime I drink a good one. So powerful, so thick, so mouthcoating, so terribly on style. Think pine tar mixed with a combination of fruity turpentine, hand soap and then chewing on way too green bitter grapefruit rinds. Somewhat mildly volatile aroma. Probably treads into the IIPA imperial category.
