A modern American pale ale brewed with Mandarina Bavaria hops.

This decidedly American West Coast pale ale represents the next chapter in our brewing story. Showcasing the full essence of vivid Mandarina Bavaria hops plucked from the storied fields of Germany, it presents bright flavors of peach and orange against a crisp, spicy, biscuity backdrop. We’re glad you’re with us on this journey!

Bottle dated 10/07/15 and supposedly dead by 11/05/15.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a semi-hazy burnt orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipiated nicely leaving some rings of foam. The body had a slight transparency about it. Carbonation could be seen rising at a nice pace.
The smell opened up with sweet orange (slightly pulp-like) but allowing a delicate citrus rind to spice things up nicely and in a slight bitter sort of way.
The taste was mainly sweet underscored with a moderately bitter touch to lead into the aftertaste and become slightly sticky in the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation runs nice and fairly low allowing the bitterness to take the helm for the harshness on my tongue. However, for the most part, the bitterness remains pretty low.
Overall, 2.0 you say, well, I think Stone did a great job re-vamping this one as it definitely hit the spot as an APA and in my belly. I’d have again.

12 ounce bottle. Amber orange color. Large rocky beige head. Slightly fruit malt nose. Upfront, flavor is mild toasted malt with peppery hops. The Bavarian Mandarina hops are noticeable, but I don’t pick up the orange nuances I expected. Overall, a nice pale ale. Crisp malty components with a straightforward hoppy finish. Not rocket science here. Just a nice American Pale Ale.

Draught @ Stone Tap Room, San Diego. Aroma is rather mild with bready malt and hints of tartness. Also leathery tones. Flavour has bready malt, some leathery tones and gooseberry bush leaves. Finishes with some menthol-like hoppiness. Bland, a disappointment from Stone.

GBBF Day 3. Cask. Clear gold beer, bubbly pale cream colour head. Palate is light and finely crisp. Nice condition. Semi sweet malts. Mellow orangey hops, some peel and mild hop spice. Light dry finish. Somewhat hop recessed by Stone standards but I suspect that is more to do with the disappointing MB hops that have done the rounds recently.

Cask at GBBF 2015. It pours deep amber with a thick, bubbly off - white head. The nose is sticky, oily hops, stewed orange, mandarin, orange muffin, stollen and bready malts. The taste is bitter - sweet, oily, toasty brown bread, orange, nectarine, mandarin, grapefruit, leather, pine, resin, varnish and pepper with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Doesn’t blow me away, bit it is rather drinkable. Decent.
