A modern American pale ale brewed with Mandarina Bavaria hops.

This decidedly American West Coast pale ale represents the next chapter in our brewing story. Showcasing the full essence of vivid Mandarina Bavaria hops plucked from the storied fields of Germany, it presents bright flavors of peach and orange against a crisp, spicy, biscuity backdrop. We’re glad you’re with us on this journey!

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home on a cool June Friday night before going to band recording. I don’t remember having Stone Pale Ale 1.0, but 2.0 is surely pretty damn good. Appearance is a relatively clear amber/copper with a modest white head. Aroma is a nice mixture of biscuit, caramel, nice hop profile, smells nice. Taste is very very good, just like version 1.0...one of the best out there.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 7/26/2015. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy bright orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, apricot, pear, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, apricot, pear, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Good amount of earthy pine/herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, lemon/orange peel, apricot, pear, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance, complexity, and robustness of citrus/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a very good pale ale. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of citrus/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. This is reminiscent of the old pale ale with higher bitterness and some additional fruity complexity from the new hops. I prefer the old version as it is more in line with the style, but this is still nicely enjoyable overall.

12oz bottle pours with a clear copper body that has some golden hues and supports a thin light tan head. The modest aroma offers up grainy cracker like malts, some biscuit malts and then light citrus hops blended with some pine and floral hop notes. The taste is very Pale Ale like where a solid malt base tussles with the pine and floral and mild citrus hoppiness. The malts are a blend of lightly roasted malts, biscuit malts and a pleasing cracker malt like grassiness. This has a classic Pale feel but seems to learn toward bigger hoppiness.

Bottle to glass. Mandarin orange and a little tropical fruit. There is a moderate amount of malt in this. Clear sunset orange with a full white head with minor patterns down the glass. Taste is moderate low citrus and, as it warmed, the pine and earth came out. Moderate biscuit malt as well.

On tap at bier thirty. Pours out a amber topped with a small head. Nose is orange citrus hops and some cereal malts. Taste is more of the citrus hops and a nice light malt. Still on the fence if I like the 2.0 or OG better.
