Imperial Vanilla Coffee Porter

Bottle at home. Aroma is intense coffee, espresso, roasted malt, chewy rye, touch of vanilla, cocoa, dark chocolate. Flavour is medium sweet and moderate roasty bitter. Body is above medium. Really delivers on the coffee, not as full as I’d expected, very tasty!

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with late awakening, average to huge, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, tan head. Sweet-ish, fruity hoppy, slightly roasty, dark malty and minimally spicy aroma, notes of coffee, some orange, vanilla, a touch of toffee, minimally waxy hopy overtones; absurdely a slight muesli character (fruit and cereals) overall. Taste is sweet-ish, minimally sugary, dark malty, fruity hoppy, notes of coffee, hints of dark chocolate, orange, a touch of toffee, vanilla; well hidden alcohol. Creamy texture, smooth and soft palate, soft, foamy carbonation. Well crafted, not really harmonious.

Pours pitch black with a medium light brown head. Aroma heavily dominated by roasted coffee and sweet, dark fruits, some chocolate, caramel and some vanilla. Taste is very roast-dominated with a good but faint, sweet (and bittersweet) vanilla-aftertaste. Quite a good porter - would’ve liked some more vanilla.

Bottle from Gedeelde Vreugde, Sint-Niklaas - many thanks, Anke! Pours hazy black with a lasting, small, foamy, beige head. Aroma of chocolate powder, mocha, 'raw' vanilla, toast, black pepper, fig, macadamia. Taste is light to medium malty sweet, chocolate & biscuit with a subtle touch of vanilla, quite bitter coffee & fondant chocolate next to toasty & herbal accents, black tea-like, vaguely umami, dim sourish fruits underneath. Dryish, toasty, earthy hoppy finish, more chocolate, coffee roast & 'raw' vanilla, a bit woody, hidden alcohol (coffee liqueur). Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Lots of different flavours going on but in the end not very intense. Vanilla remains subtle.

Bottle from thewolf, thanks! Almost black. Malt, coffee and vanilla in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor, somewhat tart, with hints of coffee and vanilla. Citrus. Slightly alcoholic. Well balanced. Good enough beer, maybe just a bit onedimensional.

deep dark Brown, almost black colour, huge, dense beige-ish head, which lasts for several minutes; aroma of coffee, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, ash, some licorice, dark berries and slight vanilla notes; taste of intensive roastedness (coffee and nuts), some dark berries and maybe minimal vanilla;not bad at all, though its taste is far less complex than expected based onthe aroma

In der Nase schön röstig und schokoladig. Im Trunk dann schön vollmundig, Cremeschoko, Mokka, Desertbier, sehr lecker.

Danish imperial porter flavoured with coffee and vanilla, longneck bottle from Gedeelde Vreugde. Thick and moussy, pale brownish-beige, membrane-lacing but slowly thinning and breaking head over black beer with hazy mahogany edges. Aroma of lots of black coffee grounds, bitter chocolate, burnt toast, roasted walnuts, mocha ice cream, light vanilla bean accent but not as exuberant as I was hoping for, hazelnut oil, dried dates, tea, soy sauce. Dried plum sweetishness in the onset with sourish and umami notes reminiscent of elderberry and porcini respectively, softish carb, very walnutty-toasty and bitter chocolatey malt middle with toffeeish edges resulting in a pleasant combination of bitterness and sweetness, oily mouthfeel but a bit thinner than expected for a beer of this strength; strong black coffee-like roasted bitterness in the finish, roasted chicory, peppery hop accent, coffee apparent but not really aromatic, more a dull roasted bitterness accentuating the roasted grains; remains toasty-nutty in its main profile, with some warming but well-positioned alcohol, the vanilla however remains understated and too subtle for being advertised so explicitly on the label. More a hefty stout than a true imperial porter, not enough vanilla and actual coffee fragrance, but in itself a very solid black beer.

Shared bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours black with light brown head. Aroma of coffee, vanilla, fruits, roasted malt. Tastes slightly bitter with little sweetness. Medium bodied, dry mouthfeel.
