You’ll go totally walnuts over this oak-aged, walnut-seasoned brown ale. Made with a brewing style that dates back to 16th-century England and using a blend of six choice malts and two English hops, Goodwood Walnut Brown Ale features notes of caramel and chocolate with a finish that is – you guessed it – pleasingly nutty.

330ml can at the Rex Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a muddy medium brown colour with a thin broken light tan head. The aroma is malt and nuts. The flavour is light bitter, with a light, watery, toffee caramel, nutty vanilla, light floral hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Disappointing.

Taster at brewery. Clear, copper pour, head fades quickly. Woody, nutty aroma. Taste brings minor sweet notes, a little sharp bitterness. Thin but full. Bitter

From a 12 oz. can. Pours a hazy brown with an ecru head. Aroma of bourbon. Flavors are sweet brown sugar and caramel. Fairly light bodied but full-flavored.

On tap at Goodwood, pours a hazy amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings light oak and toasted nuts. Flavour is along the same lines, with light toasted oak and some nuttiness. Dry and woody. Nice stuff.

12oz bottle. Real solid Brown Ale. Nutty tones among the sweet brown sugary malt. The oak is rather mild, but well integrated I suppose. On the fuller side of medium bodied. Easy drinking, but a nice balance and depth. Solid offering.

Medium color clear brown. Has a sweet vanilla malt nose. First taste; nose carries over to the buds, yes, a stronger impressioned brown ale, quite apparent by the succulence in its sweet tangyness. I think I do get some carob flavors in there. Difficult linger hangs in there. Nuts? Perhaps a little, but fer sure the hint of cloying sweetness sticks with you in the finish, same in the olfactory, funny how closely linked the smell is to the taste on this one. Not sure what to think.

Nutty brown, solid notes of caramel and toast, backed by a mild walnut streak adding a slight but necessary bitterness. Bready fade with a slight bit of oak, but the wood mostly seems obscured. Thin feel, mild aroma. Needs to be a bigger, more aggressive beer to merit the oak-aging.
