Originally brewed to celebrate batch #100 for the year 2011, and the 2nd installment in the Fist trilogy, Double Fist ® is an American Double Pale Ale. We tried to keep the integrity of the original Iron Fist Pale Ale recipe utilizing 2-row, Red Wheat, Munich and Crystal to achieve a deep orange color and subtle caramel sweetness but with a smaller batch size to increase the fermentable sugar concentration. Also, we shoveled in a large quantity of Warrior hops for bittering in the kettle and a massive addition of Centennial and Cascade in the whirlpool for their proven flowery/ fruity aromas and flavor.
To really up the ante on the hop aroma we dry-hopped this ale with large quantities of Amarillo,Cascade, Chinook, and Citra to infuse a deep resinous citrus blast that is reminiscent of cutting into a fresh bag of hop pellets! This beer is a true hop experience but has enough of a malt backbone to hold up to the hop barrage.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/15/2014. Pours fairly crystal clear deep orange copper color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, pineapple, mango, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, caramel, toast, bread, and floral/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical hops and dark/bready malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, pineapple, mango, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, caramel, toast, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, pineapple, mango, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, caramel, toast, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and fairly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent imperial pale ale. All around great complexity and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Tap at Revolution Brewing, Milwaulkee Ave, Chicago. Poured a clear medium amber with a thin white head. The aroma is very weak malt. The flavour is strong bitter with a big liqourice malt slightly medicinal palate. I did enjoy this beer but I can’t justify the high rating that others have given it.

A cognac amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, classic biscuit malt with floral hops, piney, and citrus notes. In mouth, a good biscuit malt with flotal and resinous hops, grapefruit pulp, herbal notes, alcohol burn, quite nice.

Enjoyed at a 4th of July party at a friends place who happens to work for the brewery, and I am really happy that they do. I didn’t take notes while enjoying this, but thought this stuff was exceptionally good and easy drinking considering the high ABV. Appearance is a moderate copper, lightly cloudy with thin white head. Aroma of citrus hops. Taste goes down nice and bitter with equally balancing caramel malt. Very good stuff.

On tap @ Mikkeller Bar. It's light blurry in the glass, deep honey red in the glass and it has a big lacing off-white head. The nose is sweet caramel and fruit sweet with both orange zest, c-vitamin and a mild grassyness. Smells nice. Scary easy to drink, the most scary double ipa I can remember when it some to light drinkability. It's seriously like drinking a some sort of melon juice. Really gliding mouthfeel with a comfortable carbonation level. Fruity, lots of melon, not even a hint of the alcohol and it's leaving a hoppy and grassy taste on the tongue. Your sure this is 8.sonerhing abv? 02.05.2013

On tap at Mikkeller Bar, pours a cloudy orange with a medium white head. Aroma of dry piney hops, some grapefruit tones, and dry caramel malts. Flavour of dry piney hops, wood, and dry biscuity malts. Super dry and very piney. Awesome stuff.
