Blend of Schaerbeek cherries with two-year-old lambic - 300 g per litre.
Beer with character that is balanced and very fruity.
Schaerbeek cherries originate from the Brussels Region, and up until the 1960s these local sour cherries were used exclusively for blending kriek. Unfortunately, the introduction on the market of pasteurised and sweetened industrial lambics marked the beginning of the end of the cultivation of this superb fruit as brewers of fake lambic switched instead to syrups and artificial flavours. Schaerbeek cherries are very delicate, and the harvest is unpredictable at best. On average, we still manage to acquire one or two tonnes per year from local producers, who are now few and far between.
The lambics we select must have enough character, while still retaining a fruity side. It takes two to three months of soaking to make Kriek Lou Pepe, and due to the very limited supply of fruit available production of this superb beer is limited to a few thousand bottles a year.

Bottle. 2014 cork. 2012 sticker. Ranzani 13, Bologna. Nose has cherry yoghurt. Cherry stone. Cherry juice. Oak. Vanilla pod. New leather. Light funk. Depth of fruit is remarkable. Taste is tart, sharp and super dry. Light and super crisp on the palate. Fairly high acidity. Foamy carbonation. Lots of cherry tartness to finish. Smells fantastic, but the level of tartness is too much for me.

Sampled @ BXL Beerfest 2018. A hazy dark purple reddish beer with a small off-white head. Aroma of lactic fruits, red berries, grapes. Taste of tart red fruits, berries, lactic fruits, hints of vinegar.

Draught at BXL Beer Fest. According to Cantillons FB page: "2018 cherry harvest, Lambic 2014/2015 and 2015/2016. Beer taken from the maceration tank exclusively for BXL Beer Fest."
Dark ruby body, with a tiny, pink head.
Lovely aroma with loads of distinct, sweet, chewy cherries, slight wood.
Tastes also great, similar, a bit more wooden.
Medium, slick mouthfeel, with a flat carbonation.
Finishes perfect, smooth, dry, wooden, with loads of elegant, sweet cherries.
Amazing!! Perfectly balanced and smooth to drink, with propably the most lovely cherries I've had in any beer. Almost a nectar like sweet juiciness, while so balanced at the same time, with just enough sourness and dryness. Propably my favourite Kriek ever!

0,15l taster at BXLBeerfest. Apparently this is still rather young. bourdeaux like color, almost no head. smells of kriek, joghurt, marzipan, nutty, earthy, very nice smell. full body, light carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes medical, cherries, citric, nutty, marizpan, earthy, some joghurt. finishes rather dry and lightly sour with notes of sour cherries, earthy and some marzipan notes. 8, 4, 7, 3, 16
