Blend of Schaerbeek cherries with two-year-old lambic - 300 g per litre.

Beer with character that is balanced and very fruity.

Schaerbeek cherries originate from the Brussels Region, and up until the 1960s these local sour cherries were used exclusively for blending kriek. Unfortunately, the introduction on the market of pasteurised and sweetened industrial lambics marked the beginning of the end of the cultivation of this superb fruit as brewers of fake lambic switched instead to syrups and artificial flavours. Schaerbeek cherries are very delicate, and the harvest is unpredictable at best. On average, we still manage to acquire one or two tonnes per year from local producers, who are now few and far between.

The lambics we select must have enough character, while still retaining a fruity side. It takes two to three months of soaking to make Kriek Lou Pepe, and due to the very limited supply of fruit available production of this superb beer is limited to a few thousand bottles a year.

Pestkowe wisnie z nalecialoscia kibelk. Wytrawne mocno, duzo bardziej niz swiezsze. Bardziej w kierunku 3f schaarbekse. Robi wrazenie.

Bottle. Pours hazy dark red with thin pink headlines. Aromas of tart cherries, vanilla, almonds, yeast, vinegar, some straw and barnyard. Taste is absolutely booming with sour cherries up front, marzipan, vanilla, vinegar, lots of barnyard. This is truly amazing.

Bottle, 750 ml at the brewery. Vintage 2016. Courtesy of Tomislav. Even better than the first one. Super intensive cherries, incredibly juicy and fruity, funky and complex. Fantastic.

Flaska på Cantillon, 2016 (label). Tjusigt mörk rödlila med rosavit tät krona. Massor av körsbär, körsbärskärnor, mandelmassa, söt mandel, marsipan, jordiga toner, tjusig bärighet med hallon, lite röda vinbär. Mjuk kropp, balanserad.

Very hazy pink purple color. Lovely big massive pithy cherry character and spicy nose. Modest oak. The cherry character is unreal. Not as sour as I might as imagine. But cherry character is absolutely amazing. Modest funky yestiness. Dry. Amazing. --- Beer merged from original tick of Lou Pepe Kriek on 18 Jun 2024 at 07:05 - Score: Appearance - 9 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 9 | Overall - 9. Original review text: tons of cherry pits, modestly tart and sweet, medium full body. Very tart and juicy with this amazing cherry cinnamon finish. World class all the way.

Bottle at home. Dark pink, deep red colour with lovely pink bubbly head. Aroma sour, lots of cherry, lemon, grapefruit, lovely. Very fruity. Taste lovely, spritzy, lots of fruit, bit vinous, some sourness and tartness but not overpowering. Sweetness but not cloying. Lovely, can't describe it properly. Really nice. --- Beer merged from original tick of Lou Pepe Pure Kriek on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:06 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 10 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 9.
