Bottle. Dark brown in color with a small tan head. Aroma was chocolate, whiskey with hints of caramel. Taste is bourbon, chocolate with hints of coffee and caramel. A really tasty beer.

On tap at Blackstone, pours black with a tiny head. Nose is decadent, with loads of barrel character, complex bourbon and vanilla. Flavour is so elegant and complex, with heavy bourbon barrels, vanilla, booze and chocolate. Viscous as hell on the mouthfeel, with no let-up on the intensity. Lovely brutal BA beer that destroys the tastebuds in the best of ways.

2015, 2016 and 2017 vertical draft at Craft Brewed. 2015: Pours a pitch black with no head. Lots of baker's chocolate and cocoa aromas, some light cinnamon and vanilla. Oxidized and carbonation was most gone. Still great chocolate-forward aromas, but the palate doesn't live up. Hides the booze well though with some marshmallow notes on the finish. Overall: 3.7...2016: Lots of dark chocolate, marshmallow, and coffee. Carbonation is there, body is perfectly balanced and moving towards the fudge, brownie chewy side. Great finish that lingers with cacao nib, fudge and vanilla. Very impressed with this one. Overall: 4.3...2017: Big coffee, and 80% cacao notes on the nose. Dark malt throughout, roasted espresso and roasted cacao nib. Dry and has a touch of heat from the booze. Finish is dry, with roasted malt and chocolate coming out. Solid, roasty finish. Overall: 3.9.

Not sure what’s up with this beer, but a year seems to have left it rather dead, barely carbonated and overly sweet with an incredibly ugly pour. Slight burst of carbonation leaves no head or lace, not a good sign. Aroma’s much more promising, a giant block of chocolate floating in a pool of fine bourbon, oak and booze percolating to the top. Taste follows suit, dripping with dark chocolate and bourbon warmth, heavy caramel and licorice melding with vanilla and oak and a little soy. Finishes hot, the booze coming to the forefront while hops and oak give the fade a nice balancing bitterness. Still, the feel’s godawful, the lax carbonation and the viscous texture leading to a brew too heavy and sweet on the palate. Needs to hold up way better than this to be noteworthy (in a good way).
