Every year we anxiously await the warmer months to unleash this Double IPA, the summer edition of our former YuleSmith seasonals. The flavor imparts orange, grapefruit, and tangerine hop notes with earthy, spicy, and resinous pine undertones. A sturdy malt backbone balances out the profound hop bitterness to create a refreshingly assertive and vibrant beer that offers an unapologetically bold expression of fresh American hops.

Can at the Maakun-beer-Inn. Slightly hazy golden with white head. Sweet malts, citrus peel, some tropical fruitjuice and some dank ass onions in there with caramel on top, some swampy snake bite viper venom and pine resin. Moderate sweet and bitter. Medium body and soft carbonation. Somehow remains a crispness to it.

Can shared at home. Hazy darker golden with fluffy cream colored head. Lots of caramel, light flowers, bready, soft citrus, quite some dank weeds, sugary, grapefruit, light dry old pine. Quite malty with a nice dose of dank hops and citrus peel. Over medium sweet and bitter. Over medium bodied with malty feel.

From Mar 2008

Now for the Summer 2008 version:

It pours a hazy orange amber with a 1 finger head of foam. There's some good lacing and the head retention is, once again, excellant.

The nose is big on the hops! Lots of floral and some citrus along with some fruitiness and there's a nice sweetish smell in the background from the malt.

The taste has the floral and citrus up front with some spiciness and a solid malt backbone. Very tasty and very smooth and it isn't exactly lax when it comes to drinkability... almost no warming after the swallow so the alcohol is well hidden.

Good thick mouthfeel and the carbonation is just a tad below medium. Overall, a great counter brew for the Winter version though for me, I prefer the Winter version. Both are great though and well worth seeking out again.

650 ml bottle. Pours a copper/amber with full head. Aromas of peppery pineapple, mashed tropical fruit, and sweet doughy malts. Flavors follow same. Light perfume and bitter pine in the finish. Very good.

Appearance- slightly murky amber, a 1-2 finger solid off-white head of which lasts well. Aroma- pithy orange, grapefruit, tangerine, caramel malt, hops, more orange, hint of pineapple, fruit juice. Taste- orange, boozy tropical fruit, hop resin, fluffy malt, sweet caramel, raisin and fruitcake hints, sticky hop resin, pineapple and grapefruit hints, biscuity caramel malt in the background, juicy fruit. Full and slightly sticky mouthfeel, sweet boozy finish. Excellent stuff.
