Köln-Style Golden Ale
Using European pilsner malt and malted wheat as a base, American Kolsch is bittered with Magnum hops and features herbal, citrusy and spicy notes from end of boil additions of Tradition, Saaz and Saphir. Pouring golden in color, the aroma is of bready malt punctuated by a slightly minty hop character. With a light to medium mouthfeel, American Kolsch delivers a honey-like malt sweetness that gives way to a crisp clean finish with a touch of lingering citrus/herbal hop flavor.

Refrigerated 12 oz. aluminum can from RobertDake poured into a glass. Clear golden with small white head. Aroma is slightly fruity malt, light body, medium/light carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is light slightly fruity malt.

$2 can at vintage. Haven't seen it before, must be new. Looks like clear yellow liquid with a big foamy head that goes craggy. Smells like a typical american pale lager. Taste up front is refreshing then it goes bitter. Each slug is the same; seems like more than 5% alky and I see its not. Yes there is a little too much hop bitterness in there that tries to be old school pilsner. Hey if you want to be a pilsner, style it a plis. Fer sher it's not as civilized as the real civilized kolsch out there, such as; Roy Pitz Best Blonde Ale or Bloom Brew Field of Dreams or even Black Forest Comrade Kolsch, not to mention Gaffel for heaven's sake. I must say tho, in the end its quite refreshing with its bubbly friendliness and all.

355ml can. Pours a clear gold with a medium, creamy, short lived, white head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of grainy wheat malt and floral hops. Sweet flavour of wheat malt, apple, floral and faint lemon with a mild grassy finish. Light body with a watery texture and soft carbonation. A good summer beer. Light, refreshing and thirst quenching.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a clearish gold with a finger of foam that dissipates quickly. Grainy nose with some faint honey notes. Clean with a grainy quality on the palate. Sweet with a touch of herbal hops at the end. Not a bad kolsch; easy drinking.

Draft at the Handlebar. Dark-ish golden with small creamy head. Grainy, malty aroma. Taste is true to form, right on target. Bready, malty, mild sweetness. Small crisp bite at the end.

On draught at 1808 American Bistro. Clear deep golden color with a medium white head that evaporates steadily to a film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of malt, grassy hops and fruit. Light-bodied with flavors of herbal hops, biscuit malt and a bit of citrus. The finish is mildly bitter with a grassy hop aftertaste. Decent overall.

12 oz can from Half Time. Clear gold pour. Small head, mild lace. Crisp, herbal aroma. Some grass, grains. Solid mouthfeel. Pretty solid.
