Oktoberfest is a Marzen – a smooth, clean, malt forward German lager that was traditionally released each September for Oktoberfest in Munich. Toasty bread and subtlety sweet malt qualities emerge right before the beer abruptly, cleanly finishes.

Can, thanks to Thomas. Dark golden with a lasting white head. Malty aroma with dark bread, biscuit and hay. Sweet malty flavour with hints of herbal hops.

Got in a BIF from jdell15. 12 ounce can into dimpled mug, canned on 8/14/2017. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy cream colored head with awesome retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big brown sugar, brown bread crust, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, light caramel/pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity of bready malts and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big brown sugar, brown bread crust, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, light caramel/pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Mild herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of brown sugar, brown bread crust, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, light caramel/pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity and robustness of bready malts and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from bitterness. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with zero yeast notes present. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6%. Overall this is an outstanding Marzen! All around awesome complexity and robustness of bready malts and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter finish. Very rich and complex Munich/Vienna malt character, just enough hop presence to balance the sweetness. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a tea-like copper with a finger of foam. Roasted grain and caramel. Bitter on the palate, more roasted toffee. Grassy hops. Some pils-like malts in there. Not bad, but missing something...maybe some of that malty sweetness. --- Beer merged from original tick of Oktoberfest: Gemütlichkeit on 02 Sep 2017 at 21:43 - Score: 6.
