Blonde Stout Aged In Bourbon Barrels

Infused with coffee and cacao nibs, our Blonde Stout spent a year wetting its beak in freshly used bourbon barrels. The result is a complex conundrum boasting balanced notes of bright coffee, rich chocolate, subtle vanilla and toasted oak. Penguin was a collaboration with our friends at Three Weavers in Inglewood, CA.

16.9 oz. 11% ABV; this must be a later vintage than the one listed here. Aroma has notes of coconut, wood, coffee, bourbon, toffee, vegetable soup, chocolate. Pours hazy orange with a one+ finger bone-white head that falls pretty quickly into a big-bubbly ring. Taste is moderately sweet with chocolate and coffee flavors. Tastes a lot better than it smells. Delicious in fact. Good stuff, creative, fulfilling.

Sample at Daily Growler Powell during the Rhinegeist Boomerang Bus Tour+Party on 05/18/2017. Murky bronze color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of bourbon, malt and chocolate. Medium to full body with flavors of oaky bourbon, chocolate malt and coffee. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Draft at Gambrinus. Pours a clear gold with a finger of foam. Big coffee, chocolate and hazelnut nose that lingers. Vanilla, more chocolate on the palate. Slightly creamy with more hazelnut. Light vanilla and bourbon towards the end but abv hidden pretty well. Fun drop!
