Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 9D). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 4263528S0741. AROMA: predominant metallic aroma with some faint malt caramel notes. No hop aromas. Clean. APPEARANCE: coppery red color and translucent. beige average head with average retention. TASTE: caramel malt flavour with some toasty and roasted notes. there is some metallic flavour present. medium-low to low bitterness with a roasted and semi-dry finish. PALATE: medium-low body with average carbonation. OVERALL: a not so bad irish red ale with some sweet and caramelly malt flavour and a roasted finish. has some metallic flavour though.

Pours a clear amber color, topped with a medium off-white frothy head. Caramel aroma, also some herbal notes in there, but very mild. Taste starts sweet, caramel notes, finishing with a quite mild bitterness. Some metallic feel in the aftertaste. It’s not bad, but. it’s not that great either. Pretty average, really.

Bottle. Clear amber color with small head. Aroma of caramel, a bit of english hops. Taste is straightforward light caramel and a bit bitterness. Light mouthfeel, english ale carbonation. A standard red ale, really nothing special. 4-3-4-2-9 Nitro. I didn’t do this one complete justice, although the vocabulary stays the same. 5-3-5-3-10

Draught at Pizzeria Kariš, Pesek, Italy. Pours clear copper with thin creamy off-white head and sparkling appearance. Aroma of mild caramel, herbs and some fruits. Taste starts with moderate sweet caramel and mild roasted malt, follows mild fruity, grassy and a bit chalky with light bitter finish. Light to medium body, creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. All I know it’s overrated from my side...

Clear dark amber, foamy, brownish head. Aroma caramel, touch of coffee, roasted malts, light hops, earthy. Taste medium bitterness, bit roasty, later with some light sweetness, continues in the finish, medium body, creamy texture, nice.

The most easily available Irish red, with 19th-century roots but more a marketing concept than anything else (some authors even wonder if ’Irish red’ deserves full recognition as a traditional beer style at all). Snow white head, copperish colour, malty aroma of caramel and toasted bread, bit one-dimensional, caramelly taste with bitter finish and thin body. Industrial, simple and lager rather than ale, this is not good publicity for this style, but may well be the only example most - even experienced - beer drinkers will ever be confronted with, alas...

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 4/29/2013. Pours slightly cloudy deep orange/copper color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, toast, brown bread, raisin, plum, pear, apple, light chocolate, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with well balanced bready malt, fruity yeast ester, and light hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, raisin, plum, pear, apple, light chocolate, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Minimal earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, raisin, plum, pear, apple, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice flavor balance and solid complexity of bready malt, fruity yeast ester, and light hop flavors; with solid robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is a very solid Irish red ale. Nice balance and solid robustness of bready malt, fruity yeast ester, and light hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A pleasant and enjoyable offering.
