1988 bottle at the best beer festival in the world - weekend of spontaneous fermentation. Muddy orange with a small white head. Despite beeing rather oxidized, the aroma is really exciting. The fruity note reminds me of Northern Scandinavian cloudberries. Funk like leather, rotting wood (think old park bench) and earth or mud. Really dry and tart, funky and vineous fruity flavour, with a touch of vinegar.

1987 bottle, 22 years old. Nice citric aroma, hint of metal. Cloudy amber colour. Very small white head. The flavour starts off with a little farty malt and then turns citric. The citric note is late and slightly vinegary. Not mouthpuckering, and not entirely clean.

750ml corked bottle, 1988 vintage, broken out graciously shared by ygtbsm94 in January of 2009. Sweet mellow aroma, shows little of it’s age, but still holds up quite well. Still has some carbonation. There are some light sour tastes, but they have mellowed as well. Very pleasant lemon lime wheaty aftertaste. Extra points for aging gracefully. An awesome treat.

Bottle @ WSF - Vintage 1998. Hazy orange with no head. Sour aroma with barnyard, wood, lemon, leather and horseblanket. Sour flavour with notes of barnyard, wood, lemon and horseblanket. Nice tart and dry finish. Lovely!

Säuerlicher aber relativ begrenzt intensiver Antrunk, harmonisch. Überaschenderweise schmeckt man nicht, dass das Bier bereits 20 Jahre auf dem Buckel hat. HUGE thanks to beastiefan2k for sharing this 20 year old bottle - freakin’ awesome - hazy straw colored beer - a lot of damn earth, cellar, cobweb in the aroma, with moderate undercurrents of blue cheese - a lot of leathery character in the aroma and flavor - enormous earthy complexity, and mild citrus tang - salivary gland stimulating sourness - some salty, briny qualities at the end - it’s certainly past it’s prime, though, as some stale, cardboard-ish notes are apparent - it’s still a real treat, though.

Bottle 75cl @ 17th Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation 2008.[Vintage 1988 - from the old Eylenbosch factory] . Unclear hazy orange grey color with a virtually none appearance, virtually none lancing head. Aroma is green apple, sour - tart, oak, citrus. Flavor is light to moderate sweet and moderate acidic with a long duration, and a dry dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. (240508)

This bottle has a soaked cork and has a good pop from the carbonation. Color is clear amber with visible carbonation and a small head. Aroma is mainly muddy leaves and wet wood (a lot of barrel I guess). Past that is a light, mild lambic, which is slightly lemon citric and sour. It is light malt-vinegar and mainly oak. Taste is a bit more lambic and less oak with a nice dryness at the end. Much more lively in the taste, where as it was much older on the nose. Not much acidity or anything else. Seems filtered and/or pasteurized since there is no heavy leftover sediment. Its easy drinking and light. A bit more funk and lemon citrus with the end of the bottle. Clouds up with light acidity as well, much better this way, but again still wasn’t thick enough to be sediment of a 24 year old bottle conditioned bottle. I liked it but it definitely was not spectacular or anything.7/3/7/3/15
750mL, 1984 vintage, heavier glass with a different gold foil than the one shown in the picture, from Grote, split 3 ways.

1988 vintage bottle from Grote, and this is one is more in line with the other ratings. Pours with a hazy orange body. Aroma is old barnyard, definitely affected by age and then bretty cobwebs. Some grainy malt and light vinegar as well. Taste is medium sour with aged acidity (sounds weird but thats exactly what it felt like). Finish is aged sourness, which is overridden by a surprising fruit vinegar. Light acidity and lots of lemon in the aftertaste. A much better aged version of this beer. To be accurate, i actually think the 84 was a slightly different lambic then the 88 version. 8/3/8/3/16.

Swing-top bottle, green and white label simply says "lambic." Frank Boon thinks it is the faro, and I am NOT inclined to agree. Slight pop from the swingtop. Aroma is oxidized but cheap lambic and faintly sour. Flavor is much more tart, some sourness, very little oxidization, and the tartness sits at the bottom of my throat for a while. Its way to tart and sour to be such an old Faro, supposedly 1982, so as old as I am, unless it got infected before bottling. Still has some life on it. 6/3/8/3/15
