Aroma is light to moderate malty, roasted, burnt, chocolate notes, light hoppy, grapefruit, brown sugar notes. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. (from the tap at Wenkers in Dortmund) Black coloured hue with a short and diminishing slightly off-white head. Quite complex aroma of roasted malt with caramel, notes of coffee, combined with a touch of dried fruits and herbal hops. Bitter flavour, medium bodied, well-carbonated mouthfeel. Dry dark malty and roasty taste with caramel and liquorice; dry and moderately bitter hoppy finish with a malty and slightly fruity aftertaste. This one is much better than the Urtrüb and very quaffable.

On draught: Very dark, medium-sized off-white, quite firm head; slightly herbal hoppy nose, a fruity touch, too; and dark toasted malt (coffeeish) is present; quite dry, slightly bitter flavour, medium bodied; short, quite dry malty and coffeeish finish. Quite well made Schwarzbier................
