A collaboration with our friend Geipel Brewing, this Düsseldorf style altbier was brewed with noble intentions to a historical recipe. In keeping with Geipel’s traditional approach we used German Pilsner and Carafa Special II malt, Hallertau Mittelfrüh hops and a German ale yeast strain. But we couldn’t’ resist putting a Wild Horse slant on things with small additions of Amarillo post-boil and as a dry-hop.

Interesting beer. Malty and caramel, some nuts and nice hoppy balance. Faint metallic flavors.

Danke an minutemat. Frisch hopfiger Geruch. 10/9/9/8/9/8

330ml bottle; BB 6th Sep 18. Obtained from Chez Sophie in Shrewsbury. Poured (twice) into an old 0.25 litre tankard badged for Bolten Ur-Alt and given to me at the brewery, many years ago. Looks like an Alt, clean and amber in colour, huge creamy off-white foaming crown on top (of each pour). The nose has a malty leaning, woody and earthy also. The taste is semi-sweet malty molasses, again with some woody and earthy notes. This is beer number five in a random live tasting session with myself, it's the best beer so far.

330ml bottle. Pours a clear deep amber, small off-white head. Some moderate malt on the nose, lightly nutty. Taste is very well-rounded and balanced, with soft malt, very light caramel hints with an underlying nuttiness and a very welcome, appealing sweetness that carries through. Some soft chocolate emerging. Excellent altbier.
