We teamed up with our friends at Perennial Artisan Ales to brew our latest dessert-inspired imperial stout. Coconut Pecan Pie is our take on the classic American baked good.

Pouring a dark umber brown with a khaki colored head, the nose offers a strong display of freshly shredded coconut, melted chocolate chips and ground nuts supported by a subtle note of simmered blackberries. The palate strikes a balance between dark chocolate fudge, molasses, pie crust and bright toasted coconut with deep, lingering notes of roasted pecans. Coconut Pecan Pie has a medium body and mouthfeel with a slightly lower level of sweetness compared to past releases in this vein.

STYLE: Imperial Stout
ABV: 10.9%
HOPS: Hop Extract
MALT: Pale Malt, Flaked Oats, Simpson DRC, Crystal Malt, Black Malt, Roasted Barley

ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS: Coconut, Toasted Pecans, Vanilla

750ml bottle from Trillium. Sweet, syrupy and roasty with some coconut, nutty notes, chocolate, coffee and biscuity maltiness. Heavy and sticky syrupy. Okay, but a bit boozy and sweet.

Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours a dark brown with medium beige head. The aroma is coconut and bready malt. Slick body, coconut, pecans, boozy finish, good.

750 ml bottle. Aroma of vanilla, marzipan, charred caramel. Flavor is not overly sweet. Marzipan/ nut does not come off like an extract. Vanilla is mild, mouthfeel is oily. Notes of raisins and coconut. It’s good but I don’t know if I would stand in line again for 3 hours to get a bottle. Probably not.

75CL from AFH. Looks like Melange 3, murky, grey raisin juice with red edges. Aroma, light chocolate toffee aroma with coconut flakes like an almond joy bar. Taste, chocolate, coconut, old chocolate like not rotten just stale. There's a lot going on here Maybe too many flavors? I guess the vanilla / coconut are the most pronounced here.

Bottle, shared round at Dan’s. Clear, cola brown. Barely a head. Nose has creamed coconut. Bounty bar. Taste is sweet and chocolatey. Some weird, oily bitterness. Oily on the palate. Slick but strangely thin. Chocolate bitterness to finish. Not too great.
