Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is spicy yeast with wheat, coriander, touch of citrus. Flavour is mild sweet and light bitter. Medium body. Drinkable on a hot summer day.

Tap at Heffer, Amsterdam: Hazy yellow thirstquenching brew from Lindeboom, but there are worser Witbiers.

Witbier as interpreted by Lindeboom, still a family-owned brewery in Dutch Limburg, since 1867. Thick, egg-white, audibly crackling, quite regular, closed and stable head on an initially lightly hazed, pale blonde beer with ochre-ish tinge and lively sparkling, turning a bit more misty with sediment. Aroma of old (even mouldy) lemon peel, damp straw, cooked turnip, lemon-scented tea, cilantro, withering lemonbalm, oxidized green apple, banana peel, soggy white bread, rainwater and - when warming up - unmistakable DMS (overcooked broccoli). Fruity onset, sweetish and sourish with notes of green apple, unripe pear, banana and vague peach, quite sharply carbonated with minerally and souring effects (and impairing drinkability a bit), slender body with clear wheat soapiness and faint oat velvetiness; the wheat also accentuates the sour aspect, while barley adds a softening breadiness. Some light clove-like phenols pop up right before the coriander seed soapiness strengthens the soapiness of the wheat; more prominently, however, this lemon peel factor comes in near the end, in a perfumey way - not unlike that old jar of dried and crumbled lemon peel I keep on my kitchen shelf. Some floral hop bitterness in the end too, but relatively softly so; the coriander and lemon peel remain the key elements here (apart, of course, from that off-putting DMS gaining momentum as the beer gets warmer). Typical Dutch interpretation of witbier, quite bland and boring actually, but then witbier has rarely been my favorite style in more than two decades of beer exploring so this is a personal thing too, I guess; more objectively seen, not the worst in its kind and still preferable over the macro-brewed offerings in this style in the Netherlands. Credible enough as a Belgian style witbier, but lacking in the originality of e.g. Gulpener's Korenwolf, remaining in the very same province.

0.3 l bottle from 'Ace Drinks', 5.2% abv, best before September 2021. Slightly hazy, golden with a thin, foamy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, slightly fruity-floral, minimally yeasty aroma of wheat, vanilla, banana and a touch of orange peel. Slightly sweet, moderately bitter, gently fruity-floral taste of wheat, vanilla, banana, some orange peel and a touch of coriander, followed by a short, gently bitter, slightly dry finish. Thin to medium body, smooth and slightly fizzy mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Pleasant Wit, quite spritzy, nice thirst-quencher.

Süffiger, leicht trocken kräutriger Beginn. Erfrischend, leicht getreidig, Leicht erhöhte Karbonisierung, milde Süße. 9/10/9/9/7/9

Geprobeerd met LiekevdV bij Liesbeth's Grandcafé te Horst. Het is een troebel geel bier met een volle stevige schuimkraag. Het heeft een moutige geur. De smaak is moutig, zacht en citrus achtig.

Clear beige to blond beer, small creamy white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: bit sweet, malty, some banana, sugary, orange peel. MF: soft carbon, medium to light body. Taste: pretty sweet, some caramel, soft bitterness, orange peel. Aftertaste: sweet, bit sugary, some banana, malty.
