With a cast iron backbone of malt flavours, this red lager is something pretty special. Amber-red in colour as if freshly plucked from the furnace, there’s a hint of bitterness that settles just below its naturally smooth sweetness.

We combined a finely-tuned blend of pale, munich, toasted and crystal malts with Noble and American Mount Hood hops for this one. It’s even been cold fermented for a clean crisp finish that’s sure to satisfy and refresh after a long day at the coalface.

Bottle thanks to the brewery. Appearance - dark brown and a thin head. Nose - toffee going into molasses. Burnt bread. Taste - molasses and hazelnuts. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy and sweet middle section. Dry crunchy finish. Overall - this grew on me.

Bottle at Appellation Wines. Pours clear red-brown with a short-lived thin off-white head. Aromas of toffee and light malt. Light raisin vibe. Taste is biscuit, more malt, nuts. Sweet finish.

Keg at North Hop. It pours reddish - amber with a medium beige head. The aroma is soft, sweet, jammy red fruits, victoria sponge cake, floral notes and juniper berry. The taste is bitter - sweet, bread, victoria sponge cake, strawberry, jammy, toasty grain, straw, grass, floral and a hint of citrus peel. Finish is firm and dry. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Rather well executed example of the style.
