Pile O’Dirt Porter falls into the robust porter category. Characteristics of this beer style are a dark (almost black) color with a creamy tan head. The aroma is of sweet malt with a hint of roastiness reminiscent of cocoa. There are notes of chocolate and coffee in the flavor balanced with malt and caramel sweetness. This is a medium-bodied beer with moderate hop bitterness and negligible hop aroma and flavor. Pile O’Dirt Porter is brewed with the finest quality pale ale malt with Munich, Extra Special, Blackprinz and Chocolate malts added for color and flavor adjustment. Perle and Willamette hops are added to balance the sweet maltiness of this porter. Original Gravity is 15.2°P and alcohol by volume value is 6.0%.

Can at Theydon B’s 5K, thanks to Ryan. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is cocoa, roasty, toast, earth, caramel and sweet brown sugar. The taste is roasted malt, toast, earth, brown bread, cocoa, light toast, decent bitterness, cardboard, caramel and cola with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Fairly standard porter by all acounts. Decent nonetheless.

Can shared at my 5K tasting at Bruce’s pad, huge thanks to Ryan for leaving this state whale with us to tick the fuck out of SD, 13/11/13. Very dark mahogony brown with a light tan covering that thins to a swirl. Nose is dark toffee, earthy tones, light cocoa, mineral notes. Taste comprises light roast, treacle toffee, brown sugars, brown bread, earthy cocoa. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying finale with light roast. Ok porter but that was not what this tick was all about !
