Pile O’Dirt Porter falls into the robust porter category. Characteristics of this beer style are a dark (almost black) color with a creamy tan head. The aroma is of sweet malt with a hint of roastiness reminiscent of cocoa. There are notes of chocolate and coffee in the flavor balanced with malt and caramel sweetness. This is a medium-bodied beer with moderate hop bitterness and negligible hop aroma and flavor. Pile O’Dirt Porter is brewed with the finest quality pale ale malt with Munich, Extra Special, Blackprinz and Chocolate malts added for color and flavor adjustment. Perle and Willamette hops are added to balance the sweet maltiness of this porter. Original Gravity is 15.2°P and alcohol by volume value is 6.0%.

Skyview V, 11/11/11. Not much going on here. Black. Lightly sweet malt, and some lactose. Dry, grain finish.

on tap-pours black with a light brown head that laces. Aroma is dark malt-ashy/peat/molasses, 2nd earthy. Taste is dark malt-ashy/roasty, slight antiseptic/medicinal, 2nd earthy hops.

Bottle thanks to Keith (fata2683): Poured a dark chocolate with light white head. Aroma is dark sweet aged bakers chocolate. Taste is rich bakers chocolate with soft malts that actually keep this from being sweet, mild hops in the end.

Can courtesy of Keith (thanks for the pile of dirt man) pouring up nice and dark with dark red hues mixing with darker mahogany and mocha like head. The aroma is pushing out plenty of notes of dark roasted malts, burnt malts and a touch of cherry like esters. The taste is mostly roasty malts and a nice load of dark roasty to burnt malts and a bit of chocolate malts. Yummy stuff.

Bottle courtesy of Travlr, thank you! Poured a dark, black color with a dark brown head. Aroma is rich caramel notes, touch of honey and chocolate notes. Flavor is chocolate, with roasted and sweet caramel notes.

Draft. Muddy brown color, small brown head, decent lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate. Taste is coffee grounds, dark coca powder. Good stuff.

Gabf. Dark brown appearance with a light brown head. Very roasty, dark chocolate, espresso aroma. Roasty, a bit thin, dark chocolate, coffee flavor.

12 oz can given to me by alagnak. Pour is hazed brown with ruby notes and a one inch tan head that falls with large bubbles. The aroma is roasted, slightly char malt along with a mild grassiness. The taste is focused on the roasted malt, along with a big leafy earthy tobacco that works really well with the char nature of the malt. The grassiness joins with some mineral to create a dry flinty finish. The palate is medium bodied, un filtered mouth feel. The active carbonation and dry finish lead to really high drinkability. Really enjoyed this, thanks Chris.
