Tumulus Magna is a strong wheat beer inspired by the German “Weizen” wheat beers, but with that something extra. The use of 4 different malts results in a light amber colour and a natural cloudiness, since Tumulus Magna is not filtered. The hopping of this beer is done with the finest Hallertauer hop flowers. Tumulus Magna is a top fermented beer with refermentation in the bottle, enabling a favourable evolution of the taste pallet. Brewed since 2008.

Kale Ridders’ first beer since 2010, a ’tarwetripel’ with sticky, off-white head and brownish ochre blonde colour. Aroma of orange, peach, some sourish wheat, minerals, bread, coriander; soft fruity onset, full, dryish palate, wheaty with some caramel, aromatic floral hoppiness and some warming alcohol in the finish. Decent, but nothing special.

Bottle pours rather clear blonde, small white head smell is grainy, with a full, hoppybased sweetness . Taste is rather bitter, slightly metallic, sweet , grainy, hoppy even . Sounds very common , but is rather different , due to more balance and aromahop-sweetness . Nice

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Poshoorn, Maastricht, 20130604) The beer poured deep golden and clear. Its head was large and white. Aroma had fruitiness, grass and mildly Belgian style yeast. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were booze, phenols, grass, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was boozy and harsh. An unbalanced and too boozy brew.

(bottle, 33cl) Almost cloudy, orange-golden colour with a big and slightly off-white foamy head. Yeasty-spicy, wheaty and fruity aroma with notes of citrus, oranges and herbal, also a bit flowery hops. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Solid wheaty and (cara-)malty base with fruity notes of citrus, dried fruits, as well as bittering herbal hops; dry-ish bitter-sweet fruity malty and mildly herbal bitter hoppy finish. Tastes like a Tripel/Weizenbock hybrid. 29.I.13

33cl bottle @ home. Lightly hazy golden color, full sized slightly creamy white head that lasts for quite awhile and leaves a decent lacing. Smell malts, lightly some fruits -imo prumes and apricot- slightly yeast and slightly alcohol. Taste malts, some fruits again, slight sweet-bitter fruitpeel hints. Medium body, low to medium carbo.

(Draught at Delirium Café, Brussels, 16 July 2012) Golden amber colour with frothy, white head. Malty, fruity nose with dried fruit, candy sugar and a touch of marzipan. Malty, fruity taste with notes of orange, dried apricots, candy sugar and a slightly spicy bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Nice one.
