Pours a pretty nice white head over a translucent brownish amber. Has a passable caramel malt. Taste is so far the weakest point. I would say that the beer is under-hopped and under-malted. Some bitterness, but not really enough I don’t think. Palate is just as boring as the remainder of the beer. I mean, it is very drinkable, but the beer sort of lures you in under false premises of a fine appearance and aroma and then hits you with a lackluster taste. But then again, maybe its just that I’m not Jewish.

Bottled (at Chriso, BB 12/2009). Amber color, small white head. Light to medium fruity hoppyness in the nose. Hard iron mouthfeel. Some hops, hard licorice kind of flavor. Harsh.

Bottled. Amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is toffee, grass and some quite mild sourish notes. Flavour is grass, some fruits, earth and quite interesting. Also a bit harsh ntoes.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a hazy orange-bronze color with gobs of carbonation. Medium head wioth fair head retention and lacing. Aroma is very nutty with some toffee notes. Slight grain and resin notes as well. Taste is bitter hops with a grainy malt finish. Medium bodied. Drinkable but I’m not a fan of this one at all.

12 oz bottle. Starts with a good hoppy smell when I open; that can put me in a favorable mood. Label calls it a brown beer, and it is more brown than a pale ale. Slight scrum of bubbles on top with a bit of lacing power. Light malts, just a bit of fruitiness, not too sweet. But a big load of hop alphas. No citrus or pine, but an abundance of American bittering hops. Frankly, a bit of a change from the usual hop-head brews. I was prepared to dismiss this as another contract-brewed gimmick beer, but it is actually different.

Weak fig aroma. Hazy dingy brown, no head. Sufficiently malty, yeasty, with undertones of dates. Good balance. Fantastic lemongrass and bark finish, with hints of the elusive cilantro. Don’t let looks fool ya, this is a good beer. No nuttiness that would be expected from an ABA and too hoppy to be an EBA, but a delightfull drink.

Bottle, The Rake, London. Reddy amber colour with a fading off white head. Not much in the aroma department that stood out. Rather boring and nondescript malty flavour with vague hoppage. Some nuttiness too but all a bit insipid and bland. Just about drinkable, but disappointing.

Bottle: Poured a orange brown amber with a creamy off white to light beige head. Aroma is roasted malts. Taste is rich with malt and yet off set with just enough hops to be balanced.
