Originally a collab with our friends at Electric Nurse, this is a deliciously sticky, fruity and bold beer. that drinks easy for its strength. It boasts chewy toffee and date-notes with a spicy edge that is subtly reminiscent of Swedish gingerbread.

Smak och doft av humle, malt, karamell, citrus, torkad frukt, grapefrukt med toner av trä, tropiska frukter. Mycket frisk barley wine med runda och fina smaker med mycket humle. Fin sötma och lagom beska. Väldigt gott.

Bottle shared at Mother Kelly’s Bethnal Green. Hazy red color, medium sized beige head. Aroma is a bit weird, I get a hint of paint, vanilla and alcohol. Weird. Could be me though. Taste is malts, alcohol, some overripe fruits, overripe red fruits. Medium to full body and carbonation.

Bottle from Beer Central, Sheffield. Just poffed this with a big piece of the Missus’ vanilla, lemon curd, and blackberry cheesecake. I now want more, but I might be sick. Probably worth it, though...

How: Bottle.
Where: NK Bar, Stockholm.
Appearance: Dark amber colour with a small beige head.
Aroma: Hops, caramel, some alcohol.
Body:
Flavour: Hops, grapefruit, alcohol. Bitter finish.
Comment: Doesn’t taste like a barley wine. Barley IPA? Too little flavour for the alcohol content. The hops dominates too much. --- Beer merged from original tick of Weird Beard / Electric Nurse Bearded Nurse 2016 on 21 Dec 2016 at 06:22 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6.5. Keg at the Shepherd’s BrewDog Bush - London. Pours clear, golden-brown with a creamy, off-white head. Big ripe fruit aroma with prominent mango and papaya type stuff. The flavor is quite sweet and sticky, somewhat boozy, with more ripe mango and papaya, along with some balancing piney bitterness. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation and chewy, oily mouthfeel. Finishes warm with more similar rich, well ripened tropical fruits, some honey. Ballsy but very tasty.

Keg at BD on da Bush, 01/07/14. Hazed dark orange amber with a moderate light beige covering. Nose is dark fruit rinds, tangy tropicals, candied sugar, perfumed notes, biter orange, grapefruit, light pine, caramel. Taste comprises caramelised sugars, bitter tropicana, hop pangs, touch of booze, bitter stoned fruit, light spice. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a hoppy linger. Decent enough hop forward barley wine, the hops and tropical coating keep it fairly drinkable for the ABV.

Keg at BD SB. It pours murky deep brown with a small yellow-white head and some particles (end of keg I reckon). The nose is wood, brown bread, raisin, varnish, permanent marker pen and caramelised banana. The taste is smooth, woody, dried fruits, earth, resin, toffee, varnish, permanent marker, citrus and warming alcohol. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Pretty drinkable for the abv. I am slightly off put by the paint/marker pen notes, but still not bad.

Keg at Brewdog Shepard’s bush at the weird beard launch. Aroma is dried fruits, orange peel, oak and alcohol booze. Nice rich red orange coloured pour with s lasting halo of cream head. Flavour is nice sweet caramel, honey, orange peel, warming alcohol. Very complex but balanced and uber smooth. Palate is full, fairly sweet velvety with lowish carbonation. Very good indeed.
