Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create an almost opaque, wonderfully silky and smooth textured ale with a complex medium dry palate and bittersweet finish.

Nice and pleasant stout. Black pour and a fine beige head Ok intensity in the aroma Mellow sweetness and bitterness Gentle carbonated. Pleasant to drink Chocolate, toffee, roast/coffee and herbal flavor [Bottle at Sørjordet Plaza in Drammen, Norway]

From bottle at Fitzroy Tavern, London, with TO 15.03.24. Dark brown. Pale brown head. Fine aroma and taste of tobacco, dark chocolate, coffee and a hint of liquorice.

En copa Viven, color negro con destellos rojos al trasluz, espuma beige bien retenida. Notas aromáticas de malta torrefacta y chocolate. En boca es de cuerpo y carbonatación media, rico en notas torrefactas y ligeramente amargas, dulzor medio, un punto de referencia del estilo absolutamente clásico.

Review based on the BJCP2021 guidelines (style 16B). Bottle 35.5 cl - Batch unreadable (BB unreadable). AROMA: medium roasty aroma with a cocoa and coffee-and-cream impression. slight vinous notes. APPEARANCE: brown color with ruby highlights. clear. medium-low light brown head with medium-low retention. TASTE: initial medium-low to low coffee-like flavor, slight cocoa notes. slight dried grapes. medium bitterness with an almost dry and slighty roasty finish. MOUTHFEEL: medium to medium-low body with medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: although the main characteristics are present, they are a bit faded.

Schon vor längerer Zeit getrunken und dann irgendwie die Bewertung verloren -aber positiv im Gedächtnis geblieben. Ein schön gemütliches Stout mit brotigen und schokoladigen Noten, das wirklich süffig und urig ist. INzwischen sicher ein Industriebier, aber eines von den besseren.

Bottle at Cat&Barrell. Pours opaque black with medium off-white head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, milk, syrup and tiramisu. Taste is medium to very sweet, light bitter and faint acidic. Body is oily with light carbonation. Finish is long and mostly sweet with notes of coffee, cocoa, vanilla, malt and milk
