Growler from Whole Foods. Poured very dark brown opaque with pretty tan head. Full bodied, with licorice, molasses and roasted grain prominent in the aroma. Great, complex taste - licorice, sweet milk chocolate , wood and bourbon notes. Chocolate mildly boozy finish.

From a 650ml bottle on 31/12/2019 (2014 edition, shared by Butz with thanks). Smells of oak and dark fruit, with a bit of smoke. This is a complex beast - chocolate, cherry, smoke, licorice and bourbon. There's some red wine, oak and booze to make it very much a sipper. The palate is viscous, the carbonation softish. Undeniably high quality stuff, though perhaps not my thing style wise.

Bottle shared by Bursprak the man. Thanks so much for bringing this! Been a big want for some time. Alright, let me explain how this went down: I thought Abyss was a regular bourbon barrelaged imperial stout, so when I smelled the open bottle I was quite surprised. Even more did the aroma surprise me, when it came from a glass. Lets dig in; pours pitch black with a medium dark brown head. Aromas of port wine, cherries, soy, dark fruits, dark chocolate, licorice, molasses, caramel, light tobacco. Taste is roasted, bitter, port wine, vanilla, licorice, salmiak, dark chocolate, molasses, caramel, cherries, dry woody notes, light smoke, burned wood, light heat. Even though I’m not usually much into this style of imperial stout, this was really nice.
