Bottle at Tigh Na Cheo. It pours cloudy brown with a thick light beige head. The aroma is rich, bitter - sweet, dried fruits, berry, redcurrant, rich smoked action, Islay whisky, Scottish tablet and cranachan. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, berry skin, rich smoke, fruit cake, dry wood, earth, medicinal, mild astringency, some spice, toffee and a hint of alcohol warmth with a pretty dry finish. Medium body and average. I quite like elements of this, but I’m not sure on the balance.

12oz bottle with the guys at Hanging Bat. 80% gushed hard over everything. What was left was a murky, brick red with some ringing, brown head. Nose is big with peat and smoke and rubber, some brown sugar. Flavor is slightly better, some sweetness, some brown sugar, huge peat though, smoke, earthy. Hot finish. WOOO.

330ml bottle from the Beerhive. Pours clear ruby brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of islay whisky, strong peat. Wow, very strong nose. Taste is woody up front, more peat and iodine, then a sweetness creeps in and the base scotch ale shows through. Faintly nutty. A little thinned out by time in the barrel, but good.

Hazy brown ale with a thin head a smell that, were I blindfolded, I’d identify as whisky. Flavour is a touch more balanced. There’s some malt and hop kicking about but there’s still a very smoky, peaty quality to it. To be quite honest, I think I’d rather just have a whisky than have a beer that tastes so strongly of it. It’s not bad at all, I just don’t think it’s really to my taste. There’s of malty, woody sweetness in there but it doesn’t really taste like a beer. I enjoyed it well enough but I wouldn’t rush back.
