Old rating from 2014 - 500ml bottle from the brewery, pours amber with a large white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of orange, citrus, lemon, apple, pear, honey, crackers, earth, grain & malt. Medium body & carbonation. Sweet & well balanced yet slightly tart, medium bitter finish.

A great classic take on a classic style. Great UK hop nose, loads of fuggles, and goldings. Great biscuity malts, grassy, earthy hops. Super drinkable. Love it.

Tap at National Brewery Center, Burton-on-Trent: Clear orange/amber coloured brew with an sweetbitter taste, the first IPA they said me at the musuem. Not so hoppy as his hoppy succesors.

Historical tick which I am adding as a rate so that I can see the impact it has on my stats. 500 Beers To Try Before You Die. From the now closed West Byfleet Wine Rack. Was not overly impressed.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford (not listed in RateBeer) Been a long, long time since I had this, so couldn’t resist when I saw it on tap. Pours a golden orange with a small white head and what can only be described as excellent lacing. Nose features both malt and hops, whilst in the mouth it is grainy and metallic with some toffee and caramel sweetness. Has a restrained hoppy finish with hints of oranges. A perfectly balanced beer. I had it for 3 days in succession !

Pours clear, caramelly amber. Médium big to big white head. Médium stability. Tad creamy in texture. Smell is mild caramelly, ezrhty, typical UK style hops. Taste is rather sweet, carmamelly maltyness, bit crisp. Médium bitterness, well balanced and recognizable UK style hops, fitting very well with the malts. Very well made, I'm getting more and more into these classic UK style beers.

Bottle conditioned. Always wanted to try this beer, and after more than 25 years of serious beer tasting, now the time has come. Light gusher, amber color. Vinous aroma with raisin, apple and a hint of hops. Sweetish hopbitter flavor with hints of laurel and apple. Butterscotch. Long nutty bitter aftertaste. An OK experience, but not a dream come true.
