La Trappe Trappist - Abdij O.L.V. Koningshoeven Quadrupel
Characteristically Trappist ale and the source for the name of this ale style. Warm, amber-coloured with a cream-coloured head. The full, heart-warming and intense taste is malty with sweet tones of dates and caramel. EBC 35.

Rich orange/tan colour with a soft well laced head. The aroma is soft and sweet, malty with a light spiciness. Drinking a beer like this after indulging in too many IPAs over time is a real treat. This beer has a lovely balance of banana, brown sugar, Belgian yeast, dried fruit and bubble gum. The body is rich and a touch syrupy with a typically fine and fluffy effervescence that enhances the taste. A great beer.

Bottle, 2023 vintage. Caramel malt aroma with notes of dark fruit, clove, Belgian yeast, toffee, banana and vanilla. Pours cloudy copper colored with a large off white head that has excellent retention and some lacing. Starts with rich caramel, dark fruit, banana and clove flavors as well as having a rich, full body and smooth mouthfeel. Finishes quite smooth with toffee, vanilla and spicy Belgian yeast flavors. Excellent quad!

Draft @ La Trappe. Pours a clear mahogany, smooth white head. Lovely subtle toffee character, super soft palate, but lacks a certain richness.. bottle seems better, unfortunately no oak aged available.

From one monoprix, at Paris, in my point of view, it is a solid quadrupel, round and smooth, plum and apricot, some hop. 02.08.2019, drinking it at Bonfol, Jura, holidays in family.

0.33 l bottle. Pours copper color with a long lasting, foamy white head. Strong dried fruits notes both in aroma and taste, with roasted malts, burnt sugar, nutty and alcohol overtones. Pleasant sweet aftertaste, very soft carbonation, and not overwhelmingly heavy body with surpringly well hidden ABV. Well balanced, complex brew.

11.2oz bottle. A really approachable Quad. Smooth malts, perfect effervescence..OK probably better in the 750ml bottle. Fruity yeast and malts nuances, not as boozy as you would expect from a Quad. Really great stuff.
