Keg at Small Bar Bristol. It pours jet black with a decent light tan head. The nose is rich roast, burnt pine, earthy, salted liquorice, orange peel, light soap and cocoa nibs. The taste is pretty bitter, burnt pine, soapy, citrus peel, floral, earthy, umami, liquorice, cracked black pepper with a very dry finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Pretty punchy, but probably too dry. Hoppy porter? Aka black IPA.

Keg at The Hanging Bat. Dark brown body with a faint beige head. Minimal lacing. Aroma of rabbit hutch, blackcurrant and burnt malts. Flavour of tar, ash and dusty dark chocolate. Incredibly dry. Medium body with a light texture. Soft fizz. Too dry and ashy.
