One of Michael Jackson’s 500 Classic Brews. Carnegie Porter was brewed for the first time in 1836 and tastes the same today as it did then. Carnegie Porter has a creamy head with a scent of coffee. Its sweet and well rounded flavor is balanced by the bitterness of the hops. Storage helps the flavor mature and enhances its harmony.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Manchester Wine and Liquors. Appearance is dark brown and mahogany, with no sparkle, ring of beige head with no lacing. Aroma is dark malts with syrupy sweet fruit (lessens as warms), molasses (increases as warms), earth. Taste is mix of bittersweet roasted malts, molasses and dark fruits. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with thick texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste but crisp. Overall, nice balance between sweet and bitter, fairly restrained, with luscious mouthfeel.

11.2 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a small beige head that quickly dissipates within the first minute and then leaves a thin film for the duration. Aroma is malty with some chocolate notes. Taste is roasted malt, dark fruits, coffee and chocolate, vinous notes, a bit of ash. Decent stuff.

Vanilla and coffee very prevalent. A light body and I could not really figure out what was wanted with this porter. A disappointment tbh.

0.33 l bottle at ’Butcher’s Tears’, 2010 vintage, best before January 2013, shared with markoijelena. Almost black with a beige head. Sweetish, slightly roasty and a little fruity aroma of caramel, milk chocolate, some coffee, hazelnut and a touch of dark ripe fruits. Quite sweet, slightly roasty and a little fruity taste of caramel, milk chocolate, sweet coffee and hints of dark ripe fruits, followed by a short, slightly bitter, a little roasty finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, almost flat. Nice, but expected more.
