Desperate Mile is a limited edition from Galway Bay Brewery. It’s labelled a Hoppy Sour and comes in at a more modest 5.4%. It’s a lovely golden colour and once again it has a funky fruity aroma. This time though the wild yeast is complimented by citrussy hops.

Many thanks to Beersiveknown! The beer starts intense sour with an interesting floral malty body behind. A bit rough and sharp. The (in my eyes too neutral) sourness lays over the malty body that has lots of bitter-floral hints, but not too much fruitiness. Only in the aftertaste there are a few fruity hints. The hoppy floralness is quite thin hidden behind the sour body. Very dry, the aftertaste is sour with a quite intense bitter aroma with only floral hints. Kind of unround to me. Especially the bitterness in the end can also be a bit more floral and not so neutral. But all in all a nice brew.

Bottle from Kavanagh’s, Dublin [120415]
Light blonde, soft haze, thin white head that dissipates
Aroma of sour tart lemon, sherbet, fresh, simple
Taste of sour lemon, very light pale malt background, some citrus zest hops, but flavour dominated by the sour lemon, not as hoppy as expected, not a complex sour
Palate - Soft carb, medium to thin body, quite acidic, soft sweet, quite refreshing, clean off palate
Overall - I found it difficult to get through a 500ml bottle of this, a 330ml is better due to the acidity. Rather a simple flavour profile for a sour - but quite a decent beer.

Bottle. Pale gold with a thin head. Aroma is sour citrus. Flavour is sour fruit, tangy bitterness with an overlay of soft fruit. Dry lemon finish, gets gentler as you go through it.
