Cantillon Blåbær Lambik a lambic with bilberries added and produced for Ølbutikken in Copehagen, Denmark. It is produced in very limited quantities and is generally released sometime during the summer. It is released in both 37,5cl and 75cl bottles and is 5% ABV.
Blåbær Lambik was first released in 2005 and has been released every year since then except 2006, and 2008. Though the word blåbær translates in English to blueberry, the fruit used in this lambic is the European bilberry which is very similar to the American blueberry. The fruiting process for this lambic consists of putting fresh bilberries directly into the barrel with the lambic.

Unmarked 37.5 bottle at the brewery, guess it's 2019. Hazy reddish purple with small dull pink head. Leaves a lot of sediment in the bottle. Deep funk, blueberries, soft red fruits, wheat, dead leaves. Quite some earthy funk. Medium sweet and sour, solid medium bodied. Pretty tasty.

All vintages tasted at Himmeriget Blåbær Vintage tasting. The final score on the beer is from when I thought it was best and not a mean of all the ratings given at the tasting. Vintage 2005 - Ranked #7 (shared) / 13 First batch. Pours dark-ish orange, light hazy, no head. Aroma has a lot of dusty cellar, caramel, vanilla, subtle tannic berry notes, red apples, sweet oaky vinous notes and some vinegar. The taste is super tart, lots of berry tartness, some vinegar but quite lactic aswell. Green apples, oak, gooseberries, green grapes, tannins and a subtle oxidization in the back. This was, even though pretty rough, very nice and obviously quite interesting compared to the other vintages. 8/4/7/4/16 Vintage 2007, batch 1 - Ranked #6 / 13 This vintage poured a muddy, dark red with small offwhite bubbles on top. The aroma was very tannic and had quite a lot of sulfuric notes showing up in the beginning, followed by a heavy bretty and blueberry skin-like cover. I was able to pick up some jammy notes in the back, but not a lot. The blueberries had faded quite a lot. The taste though, was pretty jammy, but also grapey and tannic. Red apples, subtle vinegar and cheesy funk in the back. 7/4/8/4/17 Vintage 2007, batch 2 - Ranked #13 / 13 Poured dark reddish brown with small offwhite bubbles. The aroma had a lot of caramel, rotten blueberries, sulfur, olive oil, burned rubber and a very hay-ish funk. The taste was vinegary, caramel, rotten blueberries, bandaid, light burning note in the back. Not sure if this was a bad bottle of if this vintage has just gone bad. This was super bad. A lot of the americans seemed to like it but I don’t know what’s going on with those guys so….. 4/3/4/3/10 Vintage 2009 - Ranked #1 (shared) / 13 Taking a turn for the better, this poured more dark red as newer bottles, with a small offwhite head. The aroma of this bottle was very vinous and tannic with notes of blue cheese, blueberries and gummy bears. The taste had blueberries and red grapes, tannin, subtle vinegar and some cheesy notes alongside a heavy acidity. 8/4/8/5/17 Vintage 2009, batch 2 - Ranked #2 (shared) / 13 This bottle poured a deep bloodish red with small offwhite edges. The aroma was jammy as hell, lots of grapes, blackberries, some bretty and stable notes with a subtle vinegary touch followed by sweet oak and light dusty notes. Best aroma so far at this point. The taste was grapey and tannic, and reminded me of aged saint lamvinus but also had a jammy character alongside notes of sweet red apples and a subtle vinegary burning acidic finish. 9/4/8/4/16 Vintage 2010 - Ranked #1 (shared) / 13 Poured deep red with a small offwhite head. The aroma was bretty with blueberries, subtle grapey notes, tannins, cheese and a little vinegar. The taste had a fairly different blackberry-like note, but also quite a lot of brett, tannins and cheesy funk. Apple vinegar in the back. 8/5/8/5/17 Vintage 2011 - Ranked #7 (shared) / 13 Poured a muddy reddish with a small offwhite pinkish bubbly head. The aromas was grapey, tannic, blueberry skin, light bandaid, horsey stable funk. The taste was once again pretty grapey, blueberry skin, black currants, leathery horsey funk and hay. 8/4/7/4/16 Vintage 2012 - Ranked #1 (shared) / 13 Hooooold up. This beer poured hazy orange with a small white head. This can’t be - and I repeat - can’t be a blueberry lambic. It smelled like an aged framboise, with lots of pitty, tart unripe raspberries, some dank weed-like notes, forrest strawberries, unripe peach, sweet oak, red apples, citrus. Delicious smell. The taste was fairly acidic, lots of raspberries, peach, gooseberries, citrus, maybe a touch of tannins making me doubt my assumptions about it not having blueberries at all but what the hell. This can’t be the same beer. It just can’t. Anyone else had a 2012 and thought it was strange? (read, NOT bad) 9/4/8/4/17 Vintage 2013 - Ranked #12/13 First time having this one and was pretty excited to see what people were on about. I will agree it’s not a very good vintage. It poured hazy red with a small offwhite pinkish head. The aroma was very brett, dry, leathery, rotten blueberries and some bandaid. The taste was grassy, subtle tame blueberries, super tannic, light bitterness and some bandaid in the back. 5/4/5/3/13 Vintage 2014 - Ranked #2 (shared) / 13 Poured a light hazy dark red with a small pinkish head. The aroma was pretty jammy, some grapey notes, vanilla, oak, light funk. The taste is fairly acidic even though the bottle we had the day before seemed much more so - maybe this one seemed less acidic in comparison to the older ones. Lots of grape, light tannic, blueberries, subtle funk the in back with some sweet oaky notes. 9/4/8/4/17 Vintage 2015 - Ranked #10 (shared) / 13 This poured a light hazy red with a small pinkish head. Aromas of subdued blueberries, light funk, subtle grapey notes and some vanilla. The taste had a slight sulfuric touch, blueberries, tart fruity and light tannic finish. 7/4/7/4/16 Vintage 2016 - Ranked #7 (shared) / 13 Pours hazy deep red with a small pink head. The aroma had a lot of sweet blueberries, blackberries, light tannic notes and a cheesy funk. The taste had lots of blueberries, blackberries, light stable funk. 8/5/7/4/16 Vintage 2017 - Ranked #10 (shared) / 13 Special vintage this year. Poured a light hazy red with a small light pink head. The aroma was full of sweet blueberries, floral notes, aloe vera, subtle funk, light citrus and almost a hoppy character. The taste was sweet, fresh blueberry juice, light floral and grapey with some oak in the back. This is gonna be nice in the future. 7/4/7/4/16

Rating 1000 at the RB Japan Gathering. Thanks to Sune! I had been wanting to drink this for a long time. Maybe got a bit over excited and didn't write much. 'Aroma lovely, fruity, lovely. Pretty sour finish. Beautiful.' Basically the usual Cantillon classiness and sourness with a different fruit which I also happen to like. Got to be a winner. Plus you could taste the rareness... --- Beer merged from original tick of Blåbær Lambik on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:05 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 10 | Flavor - 10 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 9. 2007 bottle from HenrikB, thanks! Purple red color. Earthy and oaky aroma with citrus and berries. Flavor has blueberries, grapefruit and some oak. Moderate yoghurty sourness. A dry out effect in the aftertaste, probably because of the oak. First class thirst quencher, but also some complexity. Very good, but the aroma is somewhat below par for Cantillon.

2018 Bottle at Arrogant Sour Festival at the Cantillon Tasting. Just a short sumup: Overall this was (obviously) a lot more fruit forward than the previous older version I had (2015). Overall I think I prefered this fresher bottle. 9, 4, 8, 4, 16

2009 vintage, tap at Himmeriget. Poiyrs red. Aroma and flavor are shit, sour, fruity, vinegar, oak, hint of funk. Overall: good, but one of the lesser Cantillons. Hope that trying the fresh one will change my mind.
