Cask handpump at The Fleur-de-lis, JDW, Banbury, Tuesday 8th December 2015. Murky brown in colour with a sticky off-white head, really murky. There is a very slight chemical taint to this, not an awful lot but enough to suggest I have had the first after the pipes were cleaned. Malty, creamy, soft and easy drinking a much better beer than the Vale Raven that I had up the road but a distant second to the Hooky Twelve Days in the Coach and Horses. £1.03p a half which seems an unusual figure to come to? A little tiny bit spicy, it’s ok. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov12 3.0

Tetleys Christmas Cracker Cask @ The Devonshire, Skipton. Darker, clear copper colour with a creamy head. Has a light malty nose, but mainly just a crisp easy drinking texture for its character.

Clear, dark brown colour. A really malty bitter with a background containing a hint of red berry sweetness.

A dark amber beer with a thin head. The aroma is malt and hop while the taste is malt too but with an almost burnt edge. There are hints of fruit too but they’re almost drowned out by the toastiness of the malt. Very drinkable but I think if it’d been slightly sweeter it would have been that bit better. Often, however, these Christmas ales are far too sickly with malt and spice so perhaps they got this one just right.

Cask at JDW Arthur Robertson; why do I do this to myself another Xmas beer that doesn’t taste like Christmas. Dark pour slightly sour funk. --- Beer merged from original tick of Christmas Cracker on 08 Dec 2012 at 14:10 - Score: 4
