Blonde Ale Brewed with Rice, Cinnamon and Vanilla Beans

Horchata is a traditional, sweet, milky drink originating in Spain and Latin America that has become quite popular in Southern California, particularly with Mexican cuisine. Our take on the traditionally non-alcoholic drink is a blonde ale brewed with a heavy dosing of rice, cinnamon and fresh vanilla beans along with lactose for a litle extra creamy character. If you didn’t know better, you’d think it was carbonated horchata.

Rating from notes. Sampled from the bottle. Sweet with surprisingly a flavor of maple syrup. Very sweet, some cinnamon.

750ml bottle pours a dark gold with some creamy, white head. Nose has a ton of vanilla, almond milk, cinnamon icing, doughy. Flavor is the same, chai, clove, cinnamon cake icing, cream cheese icing, carrot cake. Creamy, spicy finish. A little too sweet but very interesting.

Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours a hazy deep gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is very sweet with cookie, lactose, rice and caramel. Flavor is similarly sweet with sweet rice, caramel and cookie with a bit of spice.

Bottle at the Night of Garbage, big thanks to Kenny the Bruery pimp, 20/12/13 up a shit load of stairs ! Hazed orange amber with a good sized off white head. Nose is sweet caramel, vanilla ice cream, light spice, syrupy, Danish pastries. Taste comprises vanilla, caramel, Danish pastries and doughnuts, sweet all round. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, smooth. Ok stuff but a little overly sweet for my liking.

The (not so) shit beer tasting at Leightons stratospheric flat. Hazy amber beer with a good pale cream coloured head. Vanilla Ice Cream! Cinnanon Danish! Spot of dried fruits. A sweet and unusual beer which presents the marriage of the aforementioned sweets fairly well.

Bottle thanks to Kenny at the Night of Garbage. It pours cloudy amber with a medium yellow-white head. The nose is sweet rice pudding, vanilla, coconut, passion fruit, coconut cake, milk and cinnamon. The taste is vanilla ice-cream, clove rock, candy, sweet milk, lactose, passion fruit, cinnamon and nutmeg. Medium body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Works rather well, balance is very good. Pretty tasty stuff.
