In terms of basis, this Oak Aged Batch 18 is the smaller brother of Batch 17, and as such it has a copper-brown colour and a mixture of muscatel and Quadrupel aromas. In addition to the obvious presence of grapes, one also clearly recognises date and vanilla flavours. This batch has more of a smoky flavour, as newly burnt wood was used. The wood tannins however, are less prominent. As a result, the aromas are softer and creamier, giving the consumer a complex yet highly accessible flavour.
Characteristics of muscatel: fruity: orange blossom, honey, light orange, raisin; flowery: rose, geranium, lily; spicy: tobacco leave, cider, clove.

Bottle from the beer bistro, lcbo testing claims its 11.6%. Dark brown pour, small beige head. Aroma is unbelievably sticky and sweet. Huge notes of dark, caramelized fruit. Big plum, and fig notes. Brown subar, and dark bready, booze soaked malts. Sticky, thick mouthfeel, soft, almost flag carb. Cloyingly sweet finish, the wood pokes its head out in the end. Strong wood, and slight sweet brandy, woody, boozy notes. A very complex beer, a true sipper.

No head to speak of; clear copperish-brown beer, still. Prunes, raisins, fusels and higher alcohols, nutty esters, slightly earthy. Sweet, alcoholic, dried fruit as raisins or figs. The moscatel is traceable, once known. Serious alcoholthinning, oxydation though the effect counterbalanced by the hight ABV. Very light body, still, warming. Thinned by aging, rounded, but the nose is very inviting, and the remains very pleasing.

Zoete afdronk. Erg lekker!
