In terms of basis, this Oak Aged Batch 18 is the smaller brother of Batch 17, and as such it has a copper-brown colour and a mixture of muscatel and Quadrupel aromas. In addition to the obvious presence of grapes, one also clearly recognises date and vanilla flavours. This batch has more of a smoky flavour, as newly burnt wood was used. The wood tannins however, are less prominent. As a result, the aromas are softer and creamier, giving the consumer a complex yet highly accessible flavour.
Characteristics of muscatel: fruity: orange blossom, honey, light orange, raisin; flowery: rose, geranium, lily; spicy: tobacco leave, cider, clove.

375 ml from Park Royal LRS (?) shared with wife. BB 10-2039. Pours a dark copper with a very weak beige head. Aroma brings out tons of Muscat and barrel notes, sweet and fruity. Taste is very sweet and crazy smooth with some creamy notes from the oak. Very low carbo that, I suppose, adding additional smoothness to the beer. Interesting (but not exciting, though).

1st January 2018
Light haze on this reddish amber beer, a few pale tan bubbles. Palate is smooth, semi dry and has pretty modest carbonation. Smooth and light malts, a whisper of wood. A soft mixture of mellow sweet wine and a trace of brandy. Modest ripe sherry on the back end. I little warmth on the smooth finish which also brings a light spice. It's all very mellow and well integrated but never really sings like some of these oak editions. Good beer nonetheless.

375 ml corked & caged bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. Cloudy brown colour, no head. Aroma of oak barrels, brandy and old oxidised sherry, hints of molasses. Minimal carbonation. The flavour has loads of oak, with notes of sweet white wine, brandy and oxidised old sherry. Hints of dark dried fruits. Suffers a lot from the lack of carbonation.

Tåkete mørk brun med minimalt beige skum. Lukter svisker, trevirke, eik og vanilje. Fyldig. Lett søtlighet, tørket frukt, dadler, svisker og vanilje. Lite bitterhet. Kjenner alkoholvarmen. Fatlagringen er tydelig, eik og vaniljen er framtredende. Middels lang.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Rene! Pours mostly clear amber-gold with a creamy, tan head. Big butterscotch aroma, berries, toast, plums. Medium to heavy sweet flavour, with rich bready malts, fruitcake, more plums, toffee, butterscotch, minimal alcohol notes. Medium to full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming in the finish, with lots more ripe plum, brown bread, fruitcake, vanilla, butterscotch, ripe berries. Extremely drinkable for its heft. Almost no alcohol presence. Awesome stuff.
