Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is big roasty malt, alcohol medicinal. The flavour is strong medicinal with a a big roast, woody, boozy alcohol, big peat, liqourice bitter palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Nice and smooth, but very boozy.

Bottled. A black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of iodine, peated smoke, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate, iodine, peated smoke, and roasted malt, leading to a dry, smoked, and roasted finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours an opaque, pitch black with a light brown head. Thick, nasty iodine aroma - peat from hell! Medium body only, solid roastiness with a burned, ashy edge - and then again a ton of nasty, peaty, iodine. Malty, roasty bitter finish. 080614

Bottle. Pours black with no head. Aromas of peat, wood, and plastic. Flavors of peat smoke, coconuts, and heavily roasted malts. A great balance without peat overkill.

--- Beer merged from original tick of Meneer de Uil - Caol Ila BA on 18 May 2018 at 14:28 - Score: 8

Bottle at Scope-5K-Fest. It pours darkest brown with a small tan head. The nose is earthy, toast, vanilla, candy, coconut, toffee and fudge. The taste is bitter-sweet, toasty, earth, decent bitterness, medicinal aspect and toffee with a smooth finish. Medium+ body and moderate carbonation. Pretty well-rounded and drinkable.

Bottle split at Scopey’s 5K Extravaganza of Oompah Band meets doorbell music, thanks to Josh - 15/02/14. Light black with a moderate tan covering that swims straight to the edge. Nose is smokey, TCP, dark chocolate, toffee fudge. Taste comprises a medicinal tang, peated malts, light booze, dark chocolate. Medium bodied with a bite, fine carbonation but a little thin for the ABV. Ok stuff, the peated Caol Ila is evident but doesn’t take over too much, a little thin on the palate for the ABV which drops a couple of marks for me.
