Brewed in 2012 for the Wetherspoon Beer Festival - not to be confused with Shepherd Neame's 2015 beer 'Red Sails Cherry Porter' released under the No.18 Yard Brewhouse brand.
This new beer, brewed especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival, is named after the sailing barges which were used in the Swale, Medway and Thames estuaries. It is a full-bodied, fruity ale with a moderate bitterness, hopped at three stages of its brewing process to deliver a thirst-quenching flavour and a stunning aroma and palate.
Hops used: Cascade, Styrian Goldings, Tettnang

Cask at the Crystal Palace. Pours copper, nose is light citrus, toffee, taste is crisp, toffee.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms, Bristol, November 2012. Deep gold with a lacy white head. Sweet, hedgerow fruits with some chocolate in the background and clean, bitter finish. Ok.

Penderels Oak, Holborn 1 Nov 12. JDW Festivaløl. Gylden på farge. Nesten ikke skum. Svak fruktig aroma. Tørr fruktsmak & ettersmak. Et øl på det jevne.

Amber, slight haze, dense white had
Aroma - Shep yeast, soft minerals, some english hops here
Taste - light pale caramel malts, some shep yeast, touch of berry fruitness, hint of lemon, some bitter hops, getting English hops here but there is slight hint of citrus, touch of soft minerals
Palate - light body, quite smooth. Finish as main flavour with a touch of spicy hop, soft bitter minerals, hint of citrus, some minerals in the tail
Overall - Standard Shephard Neame

1/3 pint glass, cask, festival real ale option at Penderels Oak. Good looking with a golden-brown coloured body, tiny layer and spotty lacing to the glassware. Malt-fruity throughout. Dry bitter ending. Thin to medium bodied. On par with the style (London, 01.11.2012).

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW, London. Pours clear fold with a fine, white cream head. Nuts, toasty grain and straw on the nose. Light sweet flavour with more nuts, grainy malts, bit of toasty pale malts, hay. Light bodies with fine carbonation. Light sweet finish, a bit grainy and nutty, some more toasty hay. Nothing too wrong here.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Straw with a loose white head; fruity in the mouth, crisp and fresh, and lightly bitter; quite full bodied and satisfying, despite the lack of any outstanding or redeeming features.

Cask at Charlie Hall (JDW) part of Autumn 2012 Beer Festival; Light Brown Pour, 3 types of hops used at different stages apparently but I don’t get much hop from it. Quite fruity and bit of smoke.

Cask handpull at Sameul Peto. Clear deepish gold Lasting off white head. Hoppy some sheps yeast but pretty good i thought. 3.5 Rerate at Ashford Spoons ok bitterness on finish but not as good as i initially thought
