Bottle a big thanks to Pinkzambia for this treat. pours out a copper topped with a sand head. Aroma of late night Forth of July firework smoke. Along with plenty of oak and some sweetness. I think I am going to call this one a Double Oak PA. Tons of oak, a nice vanilla along with some sweetness. Just wish it was not so much oak.

Bomber bottle. Pours a clear copper orange with a medium frothy off white head that diminishes quickly leaving behind decent spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is a sweet fruit and citrus with pine and grapefruit. Medium mouthfeel with a peppery citrus taste with malt and caramel. Alcohol present in the finish as it lingers with some sourness. One of the more complex IIPA I have tried.

Pour is an orange with a large white head. Aroma is a nice combo of some white oak and pine hops. Flavor is a thick caramel malt with some stong dark malts with some of the oak and hops are kind of put on the back burner. I’m thinking some of the wood chips actually took some of the piney hops away from this beer. If your going to make a IIPA please leave the wood/barrel out of it and just make an over the top hop bomb please.

Tap at Great Divide tasting room - It’s official - I’m not a fan of oak-aged IIPAs - the oak adds a smoothness, and notes of coconut and vanilla that are quite nice, but it also washes out the hop profile, leaving just a light, nearly lifeless herbal character behind, which does not work well with the other qualities the oak imparts - the sweetness stands out even more since the oak subdues the hops, making the beer overly honey-sweet - the flavor is okay, but the elements don’t come together well.
