Yule is in keeping with the classic strong Scotch ale style or 'wee heavy'. But with the distinctive addition of heather flowers. It pours an enticing shade of chestnut and is a beer built around the generous malt base, with an aroma of candied fruit that ushers you to raisins. Dried apricots and caramel on the palate. The mouthfeel is decaden, with an enveloping boozy warmth to finish. It's the perfect accompaniment to those long, dark winter nights.

Can, big bubbly head, clear very deep chestnut red colour, caramel, nuts, toffee and a bit of dried fruits and cola, noticable alcohol presence in the back, medium sweetness. Nice but quite simple.

Can from Thornbridge online shop. Dark ruby/brown body with a thick beige head. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of prune, raisin and rum. Flavour of cherry, fruit cake and toffee. Medium body with a slick mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Rich and tangy - a truly excellent beer. Loved this.

Tap at the Colmore, Birmingham. Poured a clear medium brown colour with an everlasting frothy off-white head. The aroma is malt and red berry fruits. The flavour is moderate bitter and sweet, with a smooth, rich, big juicy raisin, herbal, big woody hop bitter palate. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation. Awesome when warm. Hide this from the cool room!
