(bottle) clear very dark brown colour with small brown head; aroma of licorise, coffee; sweet flavour, thick palate, pretty good (unless you hate licorice)

This stout poured a deep, dark black colour with a creamy, dark tan coloured head. Light lacing. To the nose there are scents of smoke, licorice, chocolate, cooked veggies and cream. First sip was very smooth with a almost oily mouthfeel. Carbonation was low and the flavours of burnt chocolate and smoke were most prodominant. Other flavours of licorice and i’m guessing Absinth come up later. Finish is smoky and burnt with a light licorice flavour lingering.

I usually get my brews from this brewery on the Quebec side, but this one I found at the LCBO. Quite an interesting beer. Pours an almost black colour with very minimal red highlights. The head is creamy, light brown, has great retention and leaves nice lacing. The nose has dark roasted malts, with some molasses and liquorice (anise). Quite herbal overall with some mild sourness. Pretty much the same for taste, with a little cocoa in the finish. The balance between these ingredients is pretty nice and different. Not one you could drink many in a row though.

From tap at Saint Bock. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is distinct star annis and dark roasted malty. Thick malty, absinth and star annis en masse. Dark malty and roasted, spiced to herbal. Thick malty and roasted to liqourice. Ends dry and dense liqourice.

bottle at home ... black ... thin lacing (murky green tinge)... licorice allsort on the nose ... dark roast ... huge licorice .. soft roast malt ... light toffee ... ligth bitter ... its lots of fresh licorice .. a decent licorice stout.

12oz Bottle. Pours out black with some red highlights topped with a tan head. Aroma was black licorice, roast malts, and some more candy sweetness. Taste is all licorice all the way, I just couldn’t get my mind off of that.

Has an okay black body and a very thin bright brown head. The aroma is distinctly anise absinthe, very sweet and quite nice. The stout and absinthe flavours work extremely well together here - well balanced and both distinctive, yet working in harmony. This is a kind of experiment that usually goes horribly wrong, but in this case it’s a resounding success - this is far and away the best absinthe beer I’ve had anywhere.
